There should be several optiosn in charatcer custiomisationf or filtering out chat channels like FCs, Linkshells and yes The Novice Network (I assume)

My issue is that I like being able to notify players nearby that I'm a mentor, what with the mark on my name and all, but I rarely want to be a part of the novice network. Either it is full of people chatting about random crap (trump seems to be a commonly used word), or I'm busy with something and not in the mood to respond when there are others who can answer those questions. I like helping people, but the network just doesn't seem to be the best avenue for helping new players.

My server has WAY more than 100 mentors on at any time as well, but a huge number of them are marked as /busy or /afk. When I end up in the novice network (usually because I log on outside of peak hours) I get permanently stuck in the network as 1/100, even when I go to make a phone call, make dinner, or am just afk. I don't want to take up a space when I'm not active for mentoring, but it's a pain to talk to a specific npc everytime I want to NOT be a part of the novice network.

I'm sure I'm one of MANY people who have moved the novice network to a chat tab that I don't check as often, usually reserved for crafting and hunt linkshells. They need a better solution than the current system.

Reading this, the idea popped into my head that the network should auto kick any mentor that goes AFK/Idle so that an active person can join. Also dropping anyone that joins a Duty should be removed.. I managed to get in the channel then got into a party, and my party chat got lost in the newb spam.

You could move mentor chat into a new tab and only check it when you feel like it.
