Another Mentor Thread

So my giving advice when asked is wrong then? If drama explodes in the chat I should chat too and add to the chaos by adding more text to read? I do genuinely want to help but I'm not gonna go out of my way for people who don't want it and won't ask. And taking up another's spot lol? Last I checked it's first come first serve. If I get into the channel that slot is mine till I leave.

Basically. If they need help I'm sure they will ask and then I'll respond. If there are 99 other mentors in the channel giving advice as well what's the big deal? Ignnis I'm restricting others access to watch drama lol? Wouldn't it be the creators of the drama who are restricting access? These forums confuse me so much with what people get upset over and jump on first.

You're completely missing the point, you've basically stated you're becoming a Mentor for those reasons and that's not a good reason to be one. Obviously the people creating drama are restricting access as well, that doesn't need to be stated in your defence. The whole reason people are "upset" is because you're misusing the whole intention of what a Mentor is for.

Well sorry to disappoint you. If me becoming a mentor mainly because I want a crown by my head and I like to watch drama is bad in your eyes I'm sorry. I'll still be helping people it's just not at the top of my list. Honestly my reasons for becoming a mentor don't really matter if I still help people. Yes the ends justify the means. I want the crown so I'll become a mentor. After I'm a mentor I guess I'll help people when they ask for it since I'm already there. The drama (if any) is just a nice side show to keep me interested.

I don't think you're wrong or bad. I think that being willing to help without a desire to create the drama is all we can really ask for. Sure there's the whole "principle of the thing" purist approach, and doing it because you really only want to help people is great (and those people are out there and good for them too), but we can't expect every mentor to be like that.

He could be worse, I mean going to watch the drama isn't exactly good, but at least he'll be helping. There are mentors who abuse the kick system, complain about helping Novices, and pretty much use the Novice network like a Linkshell. There are mentors who are so bad that the Novices are afraid to even ask for help and some of them beg to be kicked out of the network so they don't have to deal with them anymore so I think compared to that what he's doing is pretty much nothing.

In my experience novices want out even faster when the mentor chat is being used to fight about what the mentor chat is for...so the people trying to police the chat are doing as much damage as the unhelpful people.
