I would suggest leveling to 51-2 with things like dark steel nuggets or the first mat on the 51 list and GC turn ins. Than grab the archaeoskin crafting gear and new tools as they pop up the stat boost is tremendous.

If you can't get the 51 gear HQ then skip it and HQ the level 50 set gear instead. 51 NQ is inferior to HQ sets and the sets are pretty easy to HQ. Getting mats in HW (unless you have gil to spend a fortune on the MB) is a major pain in the butt, let alone getting them HQ to HQ the 51 set.
