I saw that quest more as exactly what people have to do now, actually.adding to the lore: melding is introduced to the character via a MSQ involving taking a piece of gear to a npc and having the npc meld materia into the gear. Realistically, that's what the supporters of this idea want: an npc to meld into existing slots (no overmelding, still have to have the materia and catalyst, and have to pay a progressive fee based on the materia tier being melded)
Minfilia asks you to take some gear to a crafter to meld it for them. :P
gathering is "ok" , i dont like the HW collectable system at all , its adding something on top of something ....
the issue with crafting is that u need to level all the crafts , and play the minigame that not every1 likes to play, the RNG factor doesnt help , and once u are at max lvl u need to gear and materia everything in order to even have a chance with 1-2-3 starts....
dont get me started on red scrips fiasco....
crafting in this game isnt fun for me i tried to like ....leveled some jobs back in 2.0 and couldnt stand it , is like forcing PVP ... some of u will scream bloody murder as soon as faust goes online....Fernrir pup - 200 feast wins GL , i have the popcorn ready for that thread.
None of this has anything to do with this thread, as there's no stat requirement to meld someone else's gear. The only requirement is the level on the item that you'll be melding.
To all the players saying "just level a crafter" I hope in 3.4 an item for high level BiS crafting gear exclusively drops from Alexander's Final Savage Mode and is unobtainable by other means.
Then for once you master Crafters will be entirely dependent on Raiders and know how it feels.
Oh but you'd riot then wouldn't you?
50 alexandrites for each time
You don't have to be a master crafter, just lv60

The fact that you think beating savage is equivalent to leveling a class to 60 is nothing short of laughable. To all the players saying "just level a crafter" I hope in 3.4 an item for high level BiS crafting gear exclusively drops from Alexander's Final Savage Mode and is unobtainable by other means.

A more appropriate parallel would be if the high level recipes required materials that can only be obtained by a means that requires you to have a DOW or DOM job at level 60. Maybe like with a currency you can only get by having something at that level.
Oh wait.

Crafters already need gatherers and DOW/M for stuff...so im not sure what you're getting at here...
Why don't we introduce an NPC that sells everything in the game so that a crafter doesn't need to level those two?
I mean I could use the MB but thats interacting with other players and thats far too scary.
I agree with the OP. As someone who has all the crafts to 60 I do think they really shouldn't require crafts to slot materia into raid gear. If someone is just starting out finding someone to slot materia is a hassle and you are like why can't I put this materia in my gear.
I can see other people's point of view. Game shouldn't force you to craft just to add some materia to raid/lore gear especially if you are not into crafting. Since this change came out I seen a lot more people shouting people with crafts to materia their gear as well as many PF ads trying to sell the service. It is semi annoying to see so many shouts all day about materia. It just creates a hassle for people who didn't level crafts to track another player down to do it for them as well as most people expect tips.
I played 1.0 and when I was just starting out people were charging 200-300k which made me level all my crafts after paying 300k several times to get materia in my gear. If you look at the most popular MMO WoW they have basically the same system with gems, which do not require any sort of craft to put into your gear.

I do think with the increased importance of melding that the requirements should be lessened somewhat. Either reduce the levels required (you can repair level 60 gear with level 50 in the craft—why not be able to meld it, too?) or perhaps remove the class restrictions (so that all that's necessary is having one DoH at 60) or something.
Other suggestions about the addition of a melding NPC would also be fine. Then it becomes more about convenience, similar to the way repairs work now.
