Nope. It's something else crafters are good for. You're essentially ignoring a large part of the game by not crafting, so it's kinda your own fault if you have to get help from someone else.

It wouldn't be nearly so bad if slotting my own materia could be done with one crafter at 60. But as it stands, just looking at my current gear, I would need to level BSM, GSM, LTW, WVR, and ARM.
Questing is like participating in an Old Spice Commercial - Talk to me, talk to him, talk to me, talk to him, Now Talk To Me...Sadly, you are not done, back to him, look there, its that mob I never liked, back to me, back to him...I'm in the Waking Sands.
Currently leveling Goldsmith and I'll have to level Leatherworker, Weaver and I think Carpenter to 60. I am absolutely thrilled.
I'm glad you'll be able to find the motivation to enjoy the other aspects of the game now.
Craft on, my bro'te.

Again You are NOT forced to craft but it does require a certain level of social/politeness all you have to do is offer a reasonable tip (MOST Crafters will meld for free but if any crafter demands like 10k for a meld is just simply a jerk). A small tip especially if you ask for more than one meld is polite.
If you're saying you can't get one person to offer to meld gear for you idyllshire with a /shout Can (whavtever you need) spare a moment for level 60 melds? Offering a small tip.--- I think you may have a more serious problem - like being on too many BLists (or blisting too many real players)
SE has been making it so much easier on crafters to meld.
I have 3 character with full 60 crafting (all 2 star capable - working on 3 star capable now T_T- there is nothing wrong with the levelling grind to get there.
If it's not your cup of tea, shout or ask a FC mate. Not to mention crafting self-repairs will help when you have a derp moment and you realize your gear will break in that run and repair your gear right there in the dungeon.

That's not how fun works. You gravitate towards what interests you and avoid what doesn't interest you. Forcing someone to do something they don't enjoy won't turn that into fun. Case in point: I leveled WHM and SCH during ARR, and hated every second of it because I hate healing, but wanted to see the story due to SE's tendency to spread lore across all jobs. You could say seeing the lore and story is its own reward, but I still look at it as a good number of hours of my life I'll never get back.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
This is a MMORPG, don't expect it to be a single player game.
If you don't have crafts leveled, or you don't even intend to level them; then ask for melding. It's an option under the online status.
You can INTERACT with people to get what you want, and it's even easier now; right click, request meld, and the other person doesn't even need to change to the specified craft.
I'm lv59 leatherworker and I had to ask a friend to meld my gloves. It didn't hurt!
I understand your point, but let's not kill the craft purpose there!

Because the game has a shortage of those classes in the world. You would have a valid argument if you couldn't request meld, but that feature allows raiders to meld gear without crafting, I'll even give you a tutorial.
1. Go stand in Idyllshire, mor dhona, limsa, or wherever.
2. "/sh any 60 BSM(GSM, LTW, WVR, ARM, CRP) that could help me with a meld?"
3. someone says "/sh I can!"
4. you request meld
5. you tip for their trouble
congrats, you melded your materia without a crafting class.
- From a GSM who has been melding everyone and their mothers accessories
