I get that people think picking and choosing specific instances to join in progress is going to help people, but in the long run, all it's going to do is cause everyone to either only pick duties that their friends are doing or look for duties in progress that happen to be "faster" than the other dungeon of the month.

I don't think so. When you need to do a roulette, the option to join a specific isntance of dungeon isn't going to help you with that.

On the other hand the lack of this feature is the main reason why less and less players are even willing to try Qing when someone asks for a replacement.

I get that. And in that situation they would get the next person who was ticking the "join party in progress" for the other reasons, just to run it for random. But as others are said, if I have an hour to play, I have decided I get some gather done, for once, and my friends ask help to get out of dungeon I could agree. I'm not joining in because I want a dungeon run. I'm joining in precisely because I want to help those particular people. Earlier the same day I might have done a roulette with ticking the "join in duty" just to help any random group. They are not mutually exclusive options. The game could have both. Just, tool for a purpose.
