    Does combat get faster at higher lvl?

    Hi,

    I just started playing recently I heard they did a lot of changes to the game not to mention a lot coming so i figured I would check it out. Well the only thing I really find boring is how slow the combat is. Is it always like this at low level? Does it become faster at higher level? Do they plan to make any more changes to the combat system? I'm not bashing the game whatsoever just trying to see if I want to stick with it or not.

    You get access to more abilities at higher level, obviously.

    But as far as the current balance goes, it's really tough to say for a few reasons:

    1) they are overhauling all actions of all combat classes in the next large patch. This means redistribution among classes, readjusting cooldown, mp/tp costs, effects, prerequisites.... We should hear more in the next few weeks regarding this.

    2) combo system is making its way to the patch after the next one. Means you can basically combo moves together to create additional effects. How this will change the pacing of combat? Its hard to say. But it will alter the way the combat plays out.

    Basically you dropped in the middle of huge changes so expect the status quo to shift significantly in the coming months.

    Yes. On quest mobs my thm/cnj can just aoe nuke mobs, equal level mobs take 4-5 spells, +3 mobs take about 7-8. Using ancient magic/fastcast/profundity you can instantly gib 70-100% of their health.

    With a partymate we duo kill regular mobs +3 every 20-25 seconds, if it was marauder could just aoe 2-3 down in same time.


    Also you're a gladiator, you do significantly less damage than pretty much everyone, being a tank class. Try being a lancer or something, my 25 lancer does quite a lot of damage, he can easily thrash 29 mobs at 25.

    Currently, the combat is very slow. MUCH slower than it was before the addition of auto-attack. Cooldown timers seem excessively long, and even adjunct basic attacks (that require no MP or TP) are on timers that exceed that of WS (upwards of 60 seconds on some).

    While I may fall into the group that actually liked the previous system, the current system is unbearably slow and methodical. Example - PUG used to be amazing with its speed, but now H2H weapons have a 3 second timer on auto-attack? Any MMA or Boxing pro would be nailed to the mat if they swung every 3 seconds. Its my hope that they will eventually speed up the auto attack and revise the cooldown timers sooner, rather than later. Even at 50, this doesn't improve much. You have more potential abilites to hit, but you're still waiting on cooldown timers - it's retarded.

    I do not agree at all. it happens maybe once or twice a minute that I wait for auto attack, otherwise I always have abilities to use and buttons to press to line up my next weaponskill, dodge, self-buff, taunt, counter etc.

    Also, I don't know much about boxing, but it sounds to me like you'd wear yourself out pretty quickly if you only kept attacking over and over

    This is very uncommon if you play correctly. Besides, is it really so enjoyable to continuously mash those buttons if there is no thought to it? Auto-attack is good because 1) it alleviates animation lock issues, and 2) you want to continuously attack regardless of the situation, so it makes sense to automate it and let the player worry about responding to what's happening during the battle.

    Hey thanks for all the great replies. I will definitely try a few different classes out. From what you talk about Betelgeuzah if they really do make a lot of those changes they could really make the combat better.

    To correct myself, both class action overhauls and the combo system are being prepared for the next patch. IT's scheduled to come out somewhere between november and december.

    PGL REALLY doesn't need to swing any faster unless they lower the TP they get per hit.

    But to answer the OP, typically the pace of fights you are in during a grind are a lot faster at higher levels simply because you have more abilities to utilize.
