    Holiday event furniture

So this thread, and the ideas in it, bounce around occasionally, but I want to point out a new development.

The Thorne Dynasty Mantelshelf from the current event is "untradable, marketboard prohibited" meaning we can't sell them on markets for mad profit like the eastern cherry trees. (Of course, you can still trade removable furniture by allowing an fc member to pick up the item in the house, so selling the item over party finder is still possible.)

Now stopping people from price gouging is fine and all (I already made my millions on cherry trees, so whatever :P) but this represents a new barrier to new and returning players from acquiring general housing items of high demand.

This isn't a "commemorative 2016" decoration. It isn't something that should be restricted to players of a certain moment or era, like a reward for witnessing Dalamud fall. It is a shelf for displaying dolls, of which they just added another half dozen to the game.

So... is this new restricted status on holiday furniture a sign of the items eventually being placed on mogstation? Or is it just a further indication that devs don't care if housing furniture becomes rare despite taking up precious inventory space.

Honestly, I just want holiday furniture added to the calamity salvager, assuming you have the achievement, because I've already got a guild bank tab full of holiday furniture. The new shelf doesn't even FIT into the guild bank due to the "untradable" modifier. I want to be able to delete items when the holiday ends, and still be able to acquire them for future years. I'd also like to put up christmas wallpaper each year, and then take it down in January, like a sane person. I finally deleted that wallpaper last summer when I couldn't take the winter theme in my house any longer.

SE has a tendency to remove those restrictions in upcoming patches (as they've done with all other event items) when they go back and add a slot for the item in the MB. The cherry trees for example were originally "marketboard prohibited". They removed the restriction when they added them as an item to the MB like 2 patches later.

If players simply horde a bag full of the Mantelshelf they'll be able to put it on the MB soon enough for player gouging prices.

Adding previously purchased holiday housing items (I'm looking at you cherry trees, twinkle boxes, wallpaper) to the Salvager or a season merchant (anything really to get them back), has been mentioned over and over but SE doesn't seem to want to respond to the issue. Instead they just keep introducing more and more seasonal housing items. :/

I thought the marketboard just wasn't updated to have the LISTING for cherry trees until a few patches later? The intent there is to not spoil the holiday event items a month in advance by listing them on the marketboard. For example, the marketboard didn't have the Halloween 2015 Succubus decoration at first, because the patch with Halloween data files was released in September. They added the data to the marketboard in the following patch.

The mantleshelf is actually UNTRADABLE. It's the first holiday furniture piece I've gotten that I couldn't immediately stick into my guild bank. I don't recall any holiday furniture being initially untradable.

Nope Syrehn is right, just like with the cherry trees this is just temporary so people can't make a profit off them right away. But in a patch or two it will be lifted & you'll be able to sell & trade them.

But I totally agree with your last part of the OP, Calamity Salvager should sell you untradeable version of holiday gear so you don't have to hoard event furniture, & making it untradeable prevents people from trying to resell it for profit to people who missed out.

Except I specifically remember trading cherry trees to a guy who was too lazy to do the treasure hunt grind for them while the event was active. He bought 3 of them from me for 50k gil each (lol, they sell for millions now), which I used for something relic quest related. He was advertising on party finder, and we traded in person, because the trees weren't on the marketboard, but the item was NOT listed as untradable.

This was WHILE the event was running, mind you. No patch was implemented to make them tradable. I was farming them myself to put in my fc bank (again, proving they were tradable), and only traded a few on the first day because I was completely broke.
