Self-Destructing Community?

I take the initiative to educate myself before stepping into something blind, instead of expecting someone else to explain the strategies before a fight.

It's a bit ironic that we get people who use the lazy card on those who didn't watch videos, yet the same people are probably being lazy themselves waiting for someone else to make a pro strat video before even attempting to run something.

I was going to reply with the same, but you and others have already said it, and probably said it better than I would have.


I still today get new people in AV. I tank through there. A LOT. Coincounter? "You ever did Fates Have It FATE?" "Yes." "Same thing, no ground markers, sidestep when he looks at you, I'll stun ranged attack." OR... The answer "No." "Run away when he does 100 tonz swing, no ground markers, sidestep when he looks at you, I'll stun ranged attack." First boss. "Grab a fruit on 2 stacks of debuff." Last boss. "Fruits on 3 stacks, kill pods asap."

It really doesn't take a lot even if you DO need to explain something to someone on most fights. Of course you can write your longer explanation too with specific attack names, emotes, etc. I certainly don't expect everyone to know AV or already watched a video of even this old of content. I sure as HECK don't expect anyone, or myself, to know something week of patch, but we go through every single time a new dungeon / raid / trial has been released. Unfortunately.

I will admit if its duty finder and we are getting mad at people for wiping on brand new content, you need to kinda grow a pair and let people have the same fun everyone else did. We spent almost 3 hours on Seph Ex, all blind and we had fun. Talking and discussing how to do certain mechanics till we finally pieced it together ourselves and got to the adds. I mean not everyone had the luxury of jumping on the game and playing for hours on end from the moment it was released and these people deserve to have some fun with the content. Now after a certain amount of time has passed then I can see it being a little more reasonable to want people to view a video or least have some idea what they are getting into.

Have been harassed and kicked before for explaining fights for quote " Don't spoil the game on me"

So now anytime I see the new player bonus pop up unless they ask for help or advice I don't bother explaining stuff.

So I'd probably advise to speak up if you need help, usually people are pretty helpful and will help out.

let them get slapped around a bit then ask if anyone wants an explanation :3

It's going to get to the point where people will (and probably have) expect everyone to master the mechanics on the day after the content was released...


Just to top the cake off, it's sad and hilarious that we get threads of people complaining about those who stay quiet, cause a wipe, then people go off on that person because they didn't say that they were new, yet we also have people who lash out against those that DO speak up that they're new or need quick instructions. Damned if you do....

Exactly. The point of a game is to have fun, and watching someone else tell me how to kill a boss or something in an RPG is not fun at all. I much prefer to just learn the stuff on my own. If the content has been out for weeks or months, then I'll use PF to learn it. If it's brand new, then I'm going to treat it like everyone else did - I'm going to go in blind, just as the people that created the guides had to do.

And yes, I've noticed that our community seems to shift based on what's happening at the moment. I honestly think we spend too much time arguing about how we should go about new content/new players instead of relaxing and coming to logical conclusions. No offense intended towards anyone, but people are way too eager to fly off the handle about everything. Heck, I just found some new players in Lost City of Amdapor a few hours ago, and I had more fun running with them than I have running with old players in quite some time.

Wow that sucks that the guy ripped into you and others like that D: I went with my FC and pvp friends completely blind learning the fight as we went, it was a ton of fun. We had one Df pug, who enjoyed it with us.

I honestly don't care if you think it's "rude" or "insensitive" when the information is available. You are willfully choosing ignorance, so expect the reaction. So yes.. REALLY! Stop being lazy and take the 10 minutes to at least know what you are getting in to.

There are moments where going in blind is accepted, and fresh new content is one of them.

It's lazier expecting to get spoonfed without even trying to see what the content is like.
and using inconveniencing others as an excuse for your laziness is terrible.

I don't mind explaining things to new people. I hate it when they join, know nothing and don't speak up at all.

Yea cause it so bad that people want to be able to experience the content first before knowing every detail of it.



Cause you know there are people out there that have lives and can't be there doing the new content at 5am patch day.

I usually laugh when people are always saying watch a video or a guide for something out for only 1-3 days.

Funny how people would request others to watch videos but there were people who went in fresh like.. 8 hours ago, did it and beat it and it was okay. Then people who are 8 hours late due to sleep or something are yelled at for not watching a video.

I love going in blind and I hate when people just start explaining everything when no one asked for their help. Even worse if the majority of the team is new and request that an explanation not be given but people explain anyway.

Guides are up within hours of new content going live, if not by the next day. So, if you aren't there on release day, take the time to look it up. That's where the explosion comes from, cause honestly.. alot of us are tired of doing the research ourselves and then expected to hand hold lazy people who don't want to "spoil the fight."

Some people enjoy playing a game and figuring things out. That's the point of playing the game. Not to watch a video on how to do it then try to imitate.
