I'm willfully choosing to learn something myself and not be babied through it. Funny how you call me lazy for not watching a tutorial and taking the time and effort to learn it myself. I'm afraid you are the lazy one here, who isn't patient enough to let others enjoy the game because you can't be bothered to learn the mechanics yourself in a few day old patch.

I take the initiative to educate myself before stepping into something blind, instead of expecting someone else to explain the strategies before a fight. So, if you want to just dive in blind, be my guest.. but don't get all butt hurt when your ignorance constantly wipes the group and they A: explode at you, or B: kick you from the group.

I'm sure the person who is pro video is baiting, but whatever. I am not surprised people are so short with others when it comes to clearing stuff. It's going to get to the point where people will (and probably have) expect everyone to master the mechanics on the day after the content was released. I had way more fun learning with randoms who were also new for the Midas fights on launch day and the day after and there was zero drama as we learned from each wipe. Sometimes it ain't about trying to clear stuff the fastest.


It doesn't take that long to give a tl;dr summary on the mechanics since mainstream content was designed to be simple. It's a bit ironic that we get people who use the lazy card on those who didn't watch videos, yet the same people are probably being lazy themselves waiting for someone else to make a pro strat video before even attempting to run something.


Just to top the cake off, it's sad and hilarious that we get threads of people complaining about those who stay quiet, cause a wipe, then people go off on that person because they didn't say that they were new, yet we also have people who lash out against those that DO speak up that they're new or need quick instructions. Damned if you do....

Since you completely ignored what I said, I learn the fight MYSELF. I don't enter a duty and ask anyone to explain it to me. I try the mechanics and figure it out. You're the one unwilling to put the effort in. Funny thing is, it's people like you who actually get kicked from groups.

I put this climate on 2 non-official forums, one of which is a toxic sewer no matter what subject, the other filled with arrogant know-it-alls who did their best to ruin the social atmosphere in FFXI and turn that game into a dronefest where no one could try different things. People from those forums gas each other up to the point where they think they're above everyone else and can level abuse toward whomever they like without being held to account.

Hint: you can be knowledgeable without being a jacka$$.

Content hasn't been out for a week and you're already expected to go and watch a Mr. Happy/MTQ video or just don't play at all.
Heavenforbid you spend 5 minutes more extra in a dungeon explaining stuff when people ask for help when you could be AFK in Idyllshire.

Is it really this bad on American servers? Here on the EU servers 99% of the people I meet are friendly towards newcomers and don't mind when people enter content blind on DF. I do everything blind myself and the only time I got a "really?" was when I queued up blind... for T13. Most of the problems I hear about regarding the mentor system seem to be way smaller here too. OP, if you want to play the game this way, you can always consider changing servers to avoid terrible people like this Dorander guy.

It depends on specific servers really. The problem is only more apparent in DF where you got several severs forced to play together since they're in the same data center, so the unpleasantness is made more apparent. Kind of like taking every single class in school in a class trip with all the troublemakers tagging along.

Have been harassed and kicked before for explaining fights for quote " Don't spoil the game on me"

So now anytime I see the new player bonus pop up unless they ask for help or advice I don't bother explaining stuff.

So I'd probably advise to speak up if you need help, usually people are pretty helpful and will help out.

Yeah I ran into this with midas 1 last night. XD There were five new players and I started giving info and let slip the name of the mini boss before the fight. (LOL btw) XD Only one player got put off by it, but yeah, it can be risky doing that. I usually try and ask if anyone wants info first, but sometimes I forget to ask. lel
