I'm sure the person who is pro video is baiting, but whatever. I am not surprised people are so short with others when it comes to clearing stuff. It's going to get to the point where people will (and probably have) expect everyone to master the mechanics on the day after the content was released. I had way more fun learning with randoms who were also new for the Midas fights on launch day and the day after and there was zero drama as we learned from each wipe. Sometimes it ain't about trying to clear stuff the fastest.
It doesn't take that long to give a tl;dr summary on the mechanics since mainstream content was designed to be simple. It's a bit ironic that we get people who use the lazy card on those who didn't watch videos, yet the same people are probably being lazy themselves waiting for someone else to make a pro strat video before even attempting to run something.
Just to top the cake off, it's sad and hilarious that we get threads of people complaining about those who stay quiet, cause a wipe, then people go off on that person because they didn't say that they were new, yet we also have people who lash out against those that DO speak up that they're new or need quick instructions. Damned if you do....

Exactly. The point of a game is to have fun, and watching someone else tell me how to kill a boss or something in an RPG is not fun at all. I much prefer to just learn the stuff on my own. If the content has been out for weeks or months, then I'll use PF to learn it. If it's brand new, then I'm going to treat it like everyone else did - I'm going to go in blind, just as the people that created the guides had to do.It's going to get to the point where people will (and probably have) expect everyone to master the mechanics on the day after the content was released...

And yes, I've noticed that our community seems to shift based on what's happening at the moment. I honestly think we spend too much time arguing about how we should go about new content/new players instead of relaxing and coming to logical conclusions. No offense intended towards anyone, but people are way too eager to fly off the handle about everything. Heck, I just found some new players in Lost City of Amdapor a few hours ago, and I had more fun running with them than I have running with old players in quite some time.
WinterMaintenance is coming

I put this climate on 2 non-official forums, one of which is a toxic sewer no matter what subject, the other filled with arrogant know-it-alls who did their best to ruin the social atmosphere in FFXI and turn that game into a dronefest where no one could try different things. People from those forums gas each other up to the point where they think they're above everyone else and can level abuse toward whomever they like without being held to account.
Hint: you can be knowledgeable without being a jacka$$.

Just sounds like typical NA data center problems, what's new?
Great example here:
Content hasn't been out for a week and you're already expected to go and watch a Mr. Happy/MTQ video or just don't play at all.
Heavenforbid you spend 5 minutes more extra in a dungeon explaining stuff when people ask for help when you could be AFK in Idyllshire.

Is it really this bad on American servers? Here on the EU servers 99% of the people I meet are friendly towards newcomers and don't mind when people enter content blind on DF. I do everything blind myself and the only time I got a "really?" was when I queued up blind... for T13. Most of the problems I hear about regarding the mentor system seem to be way smaller here too. OP, if you want to play the game this way, you can always consider changing servers to avoid terrible people like this Dorander guy.
It depends on specific servers really. The problem is only more apparent in DF where you got several severs forced to play together since they're in the same data center, so the unpleasantness is made more apparent. Kind of like taking every single class in school in a class trip with all the troublemakers tagging along. Is it really this bad on American servers? I was going to reply with the same, but you and others have already said it, and probably said it better than I would have.
I still today get new people in AV. I tank through there. A LOT. Coincounter? "You ever did Fates Have It FATE?" "Yes." "Same thing, no ground markers, sidestep when he looks at you, I'll stun ranged attack." OR... The answer "No." "Run away when he does 100 tonz swing, no ground markers, sidestep when he looks at you, I'll stun ranged attack." First boss. "Grab a fruit on 2 stacks of debuff." Last boss. "Fruits on 3 stacks, kill pods asap."
It really doesn't take a lot even if you DO need to explain something to someone on most fights. Of course you can write your longer explanation too with specific attack names, emotes, etc. I certainly don't expect everyone to know AV or already watched a video of even this old of content. I sure as HECK don't expect anyone, or myself, to know something week of patch, but we go through every single time a new dungeon / raid / trial has been released. Unfortunately.

Despite what some posts on this forum and others may lead you to believe, this type of behavior is far from the norm. Personally, I've found that for every one !@#% you encounter, there will be at least 10 helpful people. We just tend to remember the bad experiences more vividly than the positive ones.Is it really this bad on American servers? Have been harassed and kicked before for explaining fights for quote " Don't spoil the game on me"
So now anytime I see the new player bonus pop up unless they ask for help or advice I don't bother explaining stuff.
So I'd probably advise to speak up if you need help, usually people are pretty helpful and will help out.
