    What happens to materia when upgrading Lore Gear?

    I'm just curious about this because if you have a BiS Lore piece and you throw a couple of Tier Vs on it will they be erased when you get a token to upgrade it to i240?

    Since the upgraded item is a 'new piece' then yes the materia will be lost on it most likely and you will have to remeld it. Only way you would not lose it is if they made it like the zodiac weapons where it was a quest to when you upgrade the piece it kept the previous melds and adjusted the stats to the newer caps. But since the newer piece probably has different stat caps on it then they will refresh the materia slots so you can try to meet those new stat requirements.

    I was wondering the same thing. Would love a response from someone on the staff what happens when you upgrade lore gear. If its true that its lost im not going to bother putting anything in until its upgraded...

    With the relative ease of acquiring some Tier 4 Materia (can get 9-12 a day just doing the ARR beast tribe stuff), I plan on putting Tier 4 Materia into those pieces. I'm not expecting the upgrade item to get to those of us who eschew Savage Alexander any time soon, so it would not be any more of a waste than melding anything else would be.
