Is there a Melee DPS thats like warrior without the tanking? I'm a bit intimidated by tanking but still want to be a sword carrying dps

Nope. Ninja is your closest bet.
Ninja uses daggers but some of them in this game are as long as swords. As for play style they are a bit different though.
Monk uses his fists but some of the later fist weapons can look like swords/claws if you like that sort of thing.
If you like Warriors move set and how they play, unfortunately the dps is not like that as they require positionals. Dragoon may be the closest as far as watching big numbers and attack speed go. They use a Lance though.
Yeah I'm playing as a lancer now and it's not bad but I wasn't sure if there was something a bit better.
Rogue/Ninja is essentially a sword wielding damage dealer. They call their swords "daggers" and a few of the low-level ones really are, but most of their weapons are long enough they'd normally be considered one-handed swords. (In Japanese, one-handed swords are regarded as short, since the katana is better wielded with two hands.) Graphically, they dual-wield with a style that involves a lot of spinning and leaping (weirdly flamboyant for a class that also involves stealth).
It's a fairly fast paced melee class that's pretty heavily focused on damage. (Their Goad is an important support skill to restore someone's TP, but it's a quick instant cast to throw in between GCD attacks, not like Bard's songs or something, which continue like a stance and many of which continue to cost them for as long as they're active.) Once you unlock the job, Ninja includes mudras where you need to perform quick hand signs in a specific order to get the effect you want, so there's some combo memorization there, but there's only a few to memorize, so that part doesn't get too complicated.
It might be worth at least trying out for a while to see how you like it. I find the job a lot of fun.

Lancer/dragoon is the closest job to playing a tank you can get. I've actually DRG-tanked a few times when a tank died or DC'd.
I would recommend trying out tanking, it's really not that bad! Go through the hall of the novice to learn the ropes, then give it a shot![]()
maybe i'll try it, I know that early on keeping aggro can be difficult
Early aggro isn't nearly as difficult as it once was. Just remember to equip the latest weapon and to mark 2 targets for the first few dungeons before level 30. The 30% xp boost from Hall of the Novice training and 100% xp boost from leveling a pre-50 class goes a long way in getting you to that point quickly.
Also, very good Warriors can do more dps than most Bards/Engineers or Monks, and may even rival some Dragoons. There is a very high skill ceiling to reach there, but it's one of those classes that are considered OP (assuming you're skilled) now. Dark Knights, a tank class wielding a greatsword, doesn't fall too far behind Warriors in terms of dps and may suit your aesthetics better as well. Although the two jobs do a lot of damage, they are still tanks. So unless you have a static, you will be still be tanking the majority of your content and interweaving dps in to your tank stances. It's stressful, but the role can be very satisfying to play.
