The new little ladies day event this year looks to have a token of some kind to exchange for items beyond those listed as the new event rewards so it may be that the cherry tree will be making a return. I'd rather just see it as a recurring item every year than have it made freely available on a merchant given that they were not easy to obtain in the first place.
That has nothing to do with it honestly, even if they were 100 gil from vendor people would still do the same thing cause there no other way to obtain them now
