I run it roughly 2-5 times a day. I would say half the instances I join are EX primals from 2.0 that I help people get their first clears on. Majority of the "in progress" instances I enter, I end up not getting credit for DR: Mentor as I leave the instance and rejoin as a tank/healer depending on what role they were waiting on the most.
As for everyone complaining about the rewards, the whole point of the system is to help others. I would still be running DR: Mentor 2-5 times a day even without a bonus for the first completion. I've spent many times in Titan EX coaching players through it only to have the run take the entire allotted time and sometimes even having it fail. I'm fine with this as long as people are improving which most are. I've notice that it's mainly in dungeons that I find new players who don't want to listen and take advice on how to improve. In the EX primal fights I get thrown into, most of the people in there are willing to take advice and are open to dialogue on what they are doing wrong.
The only places I don't feel need to be in DR: Mentor are LoTA, ST, WoD, and VA. Since these are 24 man raids with a very low difficulty rating, there is little to no room to offer advice to a player here. Hell, half the time it's hard to even find the one or two new players in those groups in the first place until you get to the end and see the mapping achievement.

I do it an average of 2 times daily.

If people see your mentor crown they're obviously going to hold you to a high standard so I think it should be a requirement to have a player do extreme trials. Think of these trials as a reminder that mentors should know exactly what they're doing and reminding them of why they took on the crown, plus the oppurtunity to demonstrate your knowledge to the new people that get in any of those requirements. I think those should have been the requirements to be a mentor instead of 300 comms + 3 jobs leveled up anyone can get it with grinding but I digress.

I look at it a different way. The Mentor crown itself and the Novice Network is for experienced players to help out new players (sprouts). The crown allows for easy identification of someone who should be open to answering questions or helping someone new. For sprouts, this is easy as they see someone running by with the crown, they should know that they can hit that player up for assistance. If people see your mentor crown they're obviously going to hold you to a high standard so I think it should be a requirement to have a player do extreme trials. DR: Mentor, is what you described above. This is something to allow even more experienced players assist all players who are conducting something for the first time. As I mentioned earlier, I find that I wind up in a lot of 2.x EX primals when I queue for an in progress DR: Mentor. I don't mind this too much as the majority of the groups that are stuck there when I join, are open to criticism and suggestions. If they flat out do not know the fight, they are open to explanations of the strategies and for the most part are able to carry them out. I would say that I have roughly a 75% completion rate for getting these groups through the old EX primals. The only one that is somewhat of a problem is Titan EX. This is mainly due to people not being able to avoid landslides. If the group sticks around long enough for a 20% echo, I find that as long as we have 2 dps, 1 tank, 1 healer who know the fight and can stay alive, we can usually 4 man Titan EX from heart phase onward.

Yeah I try to hold the crown to a higher-standard, and I understand having it on means I'll give advice when possible. I think the system is great, although not perfect I can definitely say this initiative is putting a crack in the "you don't pay my sub, don't tell me how to play" mentality some people have out there. The fact there is a visual indicator that someone may have knowledge of this instance/job/etc I think is re-assuring for some to believe what advice being said is likely true. Although the icon isn't always a true indicator since the crafting requirements will yield the same crown (i wish they would do something about that aspect). Even when Alex: Midas was new, and it's not a mentor instance that doesn't preclude one from not helping others understand the instance. I've seen crowns that are dead-silent.
I try to run mentor roulette whatever is in-need all the time, 99% it is the tank role and I love the variety like Tam-Tara, Research Facility, Alex Gordias 2 NM, plus ARR primals like Ramuh EX and Titan EX. I'm sure overtime they will add the 3.0 extreme primals too when clear rates get higher for things like Thordan and Seph EX.
The only one that was never cleared by the party in a lockout was a Titan EX instance because we can only teach people so much about dodging landslides, and well if both healers are out, god speed!
No, you should queue on the job you are proficient as, or at-least read up on stuff you hadn't done in awhile since you could be teaching other roles their mechanics which is why there is the tank/healer/dps requirement in the first place for the status. If you don't know for instance how to do the lightning tank swap mechanic in Ramuh EX as a tank you are just making yourself look bad wearing the crown, and those of us whom actually know the instance on the job(s). People out there still "need" extreme primals for content like Primal Focus items, drops, glamour, etc. Or maybe they want to learn the instance how it really was at level 50 instead of "faceroll ignore most mechanics mode".But what about the people who get the Ex Primals who've maybe only completed it one and haven't done it in god knows how long. If I get any Ex Primals but Levi, I'll be screwed if I've qued as a tank, and I'll most likely be doing the roulette as a tank since I'm more interested in the gil than the tomes. In my opinion they should be removed as Ex Primals arent really a novice/mentor thing but a Stone, Sky, Sea thing.

I tried it once. No new people. Hear alot of the same from others.
Would be cool if you Added 60 Poetics to the reward as well for tomes![]()
I am seriously going to beat you until battle tanks pull us apart.
While I agree that's good for a main reward, I would rather I be able to make contacts with these people I help. Get to know then, their FC, ally with the FC, add them to a friends list, make a Linkshell etc.
As it stands, you'll likely never see them again. It feels very... hollow, helping out someone like that, especially if they seem awesome and you'd love to help them out more for other things. Them being almost certainly on another server just takes the fun right out of it, for me.
Probably makes me a little selfish, but oh well.
