    I can understand that. On the other hand, that the imbalance happens to be about a difference in gender isn't really the important part. It could have been a difference where they added race-specific gear and one race got more than the others (or one race got less than the others), and it'd have been the same issue -- in my eyes. It could have been one where different jobs got different amount of glamour gear. (And yes, in a way they do, considering how many are just palette swaps from another job's gear. There are threads complaining about this, too, asking SE to at least make the palette swaps a bit more mixed-up instead of the same pattern over and over. Which they actually did this latest patch! Tanks still lead the 'most unique gearsets competition' though, unfortunately.) Personally, I would have been equally annoyed if the imbalance had been based on race. A bit less with jobs, since you can level all the jobs on one character. So for me it's not so much about gender politics; people complaining about 'men in dresses' and similar blanket statements tend to turn such threads into gender politic debates however. This is rarely a good thing. (And yes, sometimes this happens even without similar blanket statements.)

    But just as you're tired of reading about gender politics, most people trying to argue for a more even balance in gear (or full-out unisex glamour sets) are tired of hearing the same 'if you don't like it, use a Fantasia' argument. Being told to spend more money to avoid the issue instead of trying to solve it rarely makes people happy.

    As I say in every one of these topics, I want to see more gender-locked gear. I like seeing people wearing a variety of things, so stopping people from wearing the current most fashionable item is a great step towards that. It adds variety, and gives an observer like myself more to view.

    Instead of complaining about gender locked gear, you should be asking for equal amounts of gear for both genders.

    ....Which many of us already are. I know I have, and I also know I'm not the only one. Yes, for most people (agreeing with these types of threads, that is) the wish to have more unisex options is the primary request, with the 'at least make things even' being a... well... grudging compromise. I also feel pretty confident that there wouldn't be nearly as many people raising this issue if there had been equal amounts of male-only and female-only from the start.

    For me, the 'even out the genderlock imbalance' is the primary concern. It's, IMO, the least they should be working towards, and preferrably also make at least an attempt at correcting the already existing imbalance. If more 'female-only' outfits end up unisex as a result, it'll be an unexpected but welcome bonus to me.

    Heck, to make things easier on themselves and the whole storage issue, they could even use the same system they've done on some of the existing gear: Have it be the same item, but let it look different depending on whether it's a male or female character wearing it. So, for example, make the spring dress unisex, but if a guy wears it, it looks like a casual frock coat instead. Not the ideal example, due to the very specific name on the item, but... I hope I made clear what I meant anyway ^^;
    I've used a few Fantasia the past year and a half, and have a couple of female-only gear pieces sitting on a retainer (nothing really 'expensive' though), just in case I decide to switch back at some point. Or in case I want to use them on a retainer. This, and fixing glamours post-Fantasia, would be a lot easier/better if they were different-appearance unisex items. ^^;

    Edit:

Not while there's always a demand for a male counter part to things such as the Bunny Ears and Thavnairian Bustier. The only solution to make these individuals happy is for all future gear to forever be unisex, as it really makes no sense to have the same item twice with a gender lock label on it.
    ...I find it amusing that the two examples you give are among those who do not have a male-only equivalent. If there was a male-only variety, not necessarily with bunny ears, and if there was a male-only variety of the bustier (for example if the vest-and-pants combo had been male-only instead of unisex), there would have been a far smaller group complaining about it. Would there be people wanting the other gender's options? Yes. I never said there wouldn't be. But if the "I want all of them" people don't get support from the "I want equal options" people, you definitely wouldn't see as much of this. Even those who primarily want all-unisex and accept equal number of sets as a compromise would most likely not support those threads. At most, they'd be expressing sentiments such as, "Yes, that would be really nice, but on the other hand, we have [male-only set] instead, so... fair enough."
    I mean, there are people wishing they could equip Lightning's gear on guys and Snow's gear on gals, but there's never really been any huge outcry over that (apart from the 'please bring the event/gear back' threads, of course, but they should stop popping up now).

    Really though? I get a lot of you want "equality" but has anyone stopped to think that, that's not the type of game they're leaning for - guys dressed as girls. Maybe you can find that on SecondLife, but do keep in mind this game isn't designed towards the Virtual Social World, while that is a big aspect of the game and a lot of people play the game FOR that. That's not what the game necessary leans towards. :/ Just my thoughts though, not trying to offend anyone if it does.

    Well actually one thing TERA got right is that all gear has a male and female version depending on the character that equips it so you only need one piece of gear. It even changes the look based on the race though I'm not sure people who play this could handle that much dynamic it'll just be "But I want this one!" no matter what they do. I kinda think in some cases it's needed though for cloth the ST gear looked ridiculous on males so they really should have had a male version but I'm sure somebody out there would have complained they can't look like a Las Vegas drag queen.

    To be fair, 1.0 had a male only race (Roes) female only (Miq'ote) and a male only subrace (Highlanders). Fan demand caused the addtion of the "Missing" genders during the development of ARR

    I get that people complain about race locked gear and uneven amounts of locked gear divided between race / gender etc. but I still don't understand it at all. Be glad you got gear you can use at all instead of whining about what you can't have and looking for things to take offense to. SE isn't trying to be racist or sexist by locking gear so to everyone trying to play that card do us all a favor and give it a rest. You aren't so important to SE that they would go out of their way to offend you. Be glad they gave you phantasia because they didn't even have to do that much. And if I recall correctly I believe they gave players at least 2 free phantasia so don't complain about cost either.

    Be glad with what they give you, because it's not like you're a paying customer or anything, this game is totally free and SE's gift to all of us out of their kind-hearted love and generosity.

    It's a game that people pay money to play.

    While you may not like what they complain about they are allowed to voice their concerns/opinions.
