    It isn't irrelevant. They are talking about the dummy and its indication of good or bad dps. Furthermore it is ridiculous to even say that only skill/rotation should matter, because it doesn't.

    I was obviously implying that they don't intend for you to challenge it before 205, so mentioning that you can't complete it with less gear is irrelevant.

    While his example may have been extreme, we cannot say that gear is entirely irrelevant regarding SSS. An i205 DRG will dps higher than an i215 DRG with the same rotation, for example.

    Let's not make arguments based off of rng damage. At 205 you have enough dps to clear the dummy without getting lucky if you play properly. Not seeing how comparing how a person 10 ilvls lower can do more damage because either he is lucky (doesn't matter, pretty sure you can clear it with a 0% crit rate) or the higher lvl player sucks ( why are you considering bad players in an argument about dps).

    I am not making an argument based off of RNG damage. My argument is thus:

    Final Fantasy XIV is a game that works based off of vertical progression of gear; I define this term as "the player character becomes stronger by attaining better gear to wear, which rather than having different stats to previously attained gear, merely has higher stats."

    The measurement of one's vertical progression is determined by their item level.

    In my example I compare an i205 Dragoon's damage to an i215 Dragoon's damage, and for the sake of argument assuming that they retain the exact same rotation and thus have the same skill level, I conclude given the premises stated that the i215 Dragoon would hit a dummy for a higher amount of damage than an i205 Dragoon.

    Given that conclusion, the gear would not be irrelevant in regards to whether or not one can defeat a striking dummy within a 3 minute parse.

    EDIT: I now see where that confusion came from; I meant an i215 dragoon would do more damage than an i205 dragoon. My apologies.

    Better suggestion.

    When you kill the dummy, the timer should stop. That way you can see the exact second you finished on.

    One step further, the game could track your clear records with the dummies, including times (maybe the top 3? 5?)

    Actually you should have to pay for repairing the dummy when you clear... ^^;

    You don't need to die to know that time is up. lol

    I'm sure the respawning process would be annoying for people with poor load times too.
