The SSS dummy should explode and kill the player if they fail to defeat it in time.

Just to simulate a hard enrage.

Let's take a look at Bismark's SSS trial:

Clearly it(and pretty much all of the rest) says that you challenging this enemy will either prove that you're a great warrior or a great fool. You simply defeating the dummy (implicity) shows that you are a great warrior! But when you fail....the dummy just...disappears. How is that showing the player that they are a great fool?

Who doesn't have money to repair their own gear, and why wasn't it repaired beforehand?

What....is the point of killing the player in a training practice? Time ran out, "Duty Failed" is all you need to know you didn't good enough. The point of the exercise is to test your rotations and DPS output to quickly burn down the target before time runs out. If you are going to simulate enrage attacks, you might as well just replace the dummy with a hologram of the actual boss and make it a solo fight.

It shouldn't explode on failure since it explodes when you defeat it, but there's so many other options like being struck down with lightning or having the platform burst into flames!

But that's a little excessive and might distract the other people in the area. Maybe just throw in a /disappointed along with the Duty Failed instead.
No, but really, SSS is fine as it is. Throwing in an untimely death at the hands of a dummy might be too discouraging and embarrassing.

In my opinion, SSS does nothing to show if you will actually beat said boss, or even if you'll make an enrage. So it blowing up isn't necessary, watching it fade away with whatever percentage it had left should be enough.

It's just you, burning a dummy down, that's it. No mechanics, no adds, no AoEs, no falling off platforms. I agree it can be used to hone your rotation, but any indication that you will pass or fail said instance is just not there. All this is, is a better version of the training dummy you may have at your home or FC house...

It's a good indicator of telling you that you have the skill to clear a fight DPS wise, obviously it doesn't tell you if you'll be able to perform the mechanics, but it's far better than going in completely blind. It'll definitely tell you if you'll be able to pass the enrage unless you panic performing mechanics and mess up your rotation (which I'll admit, I do have a problem with the first few times practice runs of a mechanic).

I imagine it would be incredibly useful for console players too, as they can now figure out their DPS (and it's more accurate than ACT with its guesswork done with DoT damage).

Nah not an explosion, might as well go to the real thing for that.. If I had to put in something, it would be your character leaning against the dummy, exhausted, perhaps with a dialog box with some stats a la the bonus screnlen in diadem. With how many times certain dots wore off or how many combos were broken, stuff to help point out where to refine your technique. which would get skipped if you just decided to leave before the timer ended.

This really bothers me. I'm by no means some grandiose player, but I'm pretty confident in my abilities with my class.

Yes, with the proper gear, it's a good indicator. I can barely clear the Seph Ex dummy, food or not, and I don't have BiS for my class.

The dummy takes more than "skill" and rotation into account. You aren't going to be downing Seph in full ilvl 180-190, no matter how good you think you are as a DPS, lol.

Irrelevant. You can't even enter the fight at those levels. You need 205.
