Windows 8/10 can recognize the DS4 controller without any additional software. Just pair it like you would any normal bluetooth device. That's how I use it on PC, and I don't experience any of the issues you've stated.

Originally, I had to modify a file to manually map the buttons in FFXIV, but I think a recent FFXIV patch fully supported the PS4 controller for PC.

During 3.1, i think, the devs added DS4 support to the PC client (before that the buttons config was a chaos and was not possible to change ingame).
    Just plug&play, no 3rd party pogramms/drivers needed

I can change my deadzones in DS4Windows. Will that broaden the "window" in which you can run straight before turning slightly left or right?

Wow, very interesting. So it does seem to be an issue with how the game is interpreting my DualShock 4. From what you say about the in-game settings, this seems more likely to be an issue with my DS4Windows. I'll have to play with the configuration some more.

Thanks for these responses, all. I'm at work now, but I will try disabling DS4Windows before I enter the game tonight.

I just wanted to update this thread with some discoveries.

It is *technically* possible to run perfectly straight on a DualShock 4, but the "window" in which this is possible is very small. I think I just hadn't noticed it before. Another way to say it would be that the DualShock 4 analog stick is *hyper*sensitive to any movement when the analog stick is at full tilt, so what you get is slight deviations to the left or right while running.

I'm currently looking at ways to lower this sensitivity. I see that the program "Xpadder" has "diagonal windows" you can adjust, which seems to widen or narrow the 8-way segments around your analog stick. I'm going to give this a shot for more closely emulating the larger "diagonal window" that seems baked into the PS4 version.
