Movement Problem: DualShock 4 on PC vs. PS4?

I understand this is a very niche problem, so hopefully others know what I'm talking about! I recently switched to playing on PC from having played on PS4 for over a year. I'm using a DualShock 4 on PC with the DS4Windows wrapper, but I've noticed a subtle difference between playing on PS4 and PC.

Specifically, on PS4, it's easy to run forward in a straight line. If you push the left stick directly forward, or even slightly off-forward, you'll run perfectly straight. When you do, moving the right stick turns your character left and right. However, if you deviate and run at a diagonal angle or in any other direction but straight forward, the right stick simply rotates the camera.

There are two differences on PC. First, it's very difficult to run in a straight line--my character either runs slight left, or slightly right, zig-zagging slightly between them. Also, perhaps because running straight is so difficult, the right stick never turns my character, only the viewing angle. I really like the PS4's method of "right stick turns character while you're running straight," but "right stick turns camera in any other circumstance."

Am I crazy? Is there something here that I can emulate on PC? A setting I missed? On PS4, I play Legacy mode, but on PC, the same Legacy mode just feels a little different, and not in a good way.

I know on WoW, the best way to emulate that was using the 'w' button to run and then holding down right-click to turn (by moving the camera). I only play FFXIV on ps4 currently though, so I don't know how different the PC controls are to WoW's.

edit: I realise this is even less helpful if you are using a controller on the PC as well. I'm sorry I wasn't of any use. But it sounds like its an issue with DS4windows so it may be better to look on help forums about the program instead.

Thanks for responding! You've actually given me an idea: I could try mapping "Left Stick Forward" to the "W" key on PC to force a straight-line run. I'm not sure how that would affect other directions, or how much of the sticks circumference counts as "Forward," but it's worth seeing what happens.

As a side note, you're lucky you can run in straight lines with your controller, I seem to wobble all over the places, but I'm aware that's because my thumb keeps shaking. I often find myself thinking about hooking up a keyboard instead so I have the old WASD fallback.

I play on PC but I use a wired afterglow controller that's compatible with a ps3. I haven't tried with a ps4 controller and had no idea it caused characters to run oddly. That's unfortunate.

I don't know if you're able to confirm at this moment, but when you push forward with your Afterglow, do you run straight without much difficulty? And does the character turn when you use the right stick, or just the camera?

Sorry, last post, but I was reading up on DS4Windows and it seems some people having be having problems with the controllers spinning out of control/not doing what they should if other controllers are plugged in/if you have a dodgy bluetooth dongle . Other people are claiming that the J2K version of the program works a lot better.

I'll stop rambling on in an attempt to be helpful when I don't actually know anyhing now. :P

It's a deadzones issue, you likely can change the deadzones in your DS4 drivers or if they do no allow you the game does under analogue sensivity, raise from 0 to 10 and raise slowly and see how it works out for you.

I run perfectly straight with ease and yes, turning the camera will also make my character turn. Seems to work on both standard and legacy type movement.

This is what my controller looks like, color too. I use afterglow since the D pad placement makes it easy to reach over and press buttons with my right thumb.

Nah, that's fine, don't worry about it I don't think it's a DS4Windows, issue. I play other games (The Witcher, GTA V) where the analog input is handled fine. That makes me thinking it's something in the settings of FFXIV, or just a hard-coded difference between the way the PS4 and PC versions "interpret" the DualShock 4 controller.
