A source of tier V? question mark

So here I am, with 298 High Mythrite Nuggets, 29 Griffin Leather Straps, 11 Camphorwood Lumbers, and 6 100%SB'd L180 Accessories. Time to Convert!

Necklace: Craftsman's Competence IV
Earings: Craftsman's Cunning IV
Bracelet: Craftsman's Cunning IV
Belt: Craftsman's Competence IV
Ring 1: Craftsman's Competence IV
Ring 2: Craftsman's Cunning IV

Not a bad haul for the amount of time spent (not counting the time getting the red scrip), but no luck on grade V.

The sad thing is in the time it took you to do this you could've made the money to just buy those materia outright on the MB.
I don't see why ILVL180 doesn't result in guaranteed Grade V for the effort it takes. Or would that be too "accessible", SE?

Well, 6 is something of a small sample size. It would not surprise me at all if the i180 has a good chance at Tv and he just crapped out on his luck. It would similarly not surprise me at all if the chance of a Tv is only around 5-10 percent, and what he got was to be expected, either.

The only thing that would surprise me would be a complete inability to get Tv crafting Materia out of these accessories.

I just tried this and ended up with 6 rank 4, which took 348 crafts with a SB potion. I don't think I'm going to try again.

I did a 2nd set (6 items) and got 2craftIV, 2CPIV,2CrtIV 0/6 T5 materia
The 1st attempt gave me two T5, but getting 0 on 2nd attempt has discourage me to even bother with it again :/

End result:
12 items >>>>>>2/12 Grade 5 Materia

What i kinda cannot understand is why would you need to check if i180 can yeld crafting materia V when it was already confirmed its possible to get it from i170. Imo it's obvious higher ilvl will grant the stuff if the lower one does. Also wouldn't it be cheaper to just sell token mats on MB and buy tier V directly off the MB or are the prices of it still too high on your servers :?

I think they're trying to determine if the convert rate to V is good enough to warrant putting in the effort.

The cheapest I've seen any crafting gear, i170, on my server's board has been in the 300-400k range, for NQ. That's more than the price of a t4 Materia, though well under the price of a t5 crafting Materia (which started, last I looked, around 2 mil and quickly went up from there; that was historical pricing though as I've never actually seen any t5 crafting Materia for sale).

Where was this confirmed? I've had people tell me they've converted dozens of 170 items and received nothing.
