People are abusing the Novice channel.

The whole reason for the Novice channel is to help new players. Any argument of "if you really want to help people" is completely unrelated to the fact the channel is being misused.

Also, I'm not talking about one specific case. This has happened multiple times when I have been in the Novice channel.

Sprouts trolling is also misusing the channel and is exactly the same as the Mentors doing it. Small amounts of chat are fine, but I don't want to see lines and lines of unrelated spam in my chat box, and I'm sure others don't either.

A GM in a picture that was posted in another thread has confirmed that the channel is not being misused, and general chat is perfectly acceptable.

Therefore, the people who're getting upset at others for "socializing" as if it were an everyday linkshell are actually the ones misusing it.

Balmung didn't seem that bad yesterday night. My first time getting pulled into the Network once I was done with a raid last night, I suggested that all mentors should lay some ground rules. The Mentors in the Novice Network make or break that "first impression" of the community of your server. It's kind of serious thing to talk about in Novice network channel as this could indirectly affect new players not wanting to play, affecting FFXIV subs. It becomes a potential snowball effect if not strictly handled.

The problem with laying down ground rules is that only 100 out of 3000 (more or less) possible mentors would even see those rules. Once the current mentors log off and new mentors log in, those ground rules will change.

So you are just going to go around yelling about how you and they were right? Ok, some of us were wrong, now let's see how could the system can be fixed.

Those of us who said this system would fail/have many short comings all offered ways to make it better and find ways to prove that a player is actually deemed reliable enough to be a mentor. Everyone who disagreed with us back then and claimed it will be fine. People preached that the methods SE decided to roll with are great ways to determine who should be a mentor. If you want this system fixed I suggest you encourage people not to white knight all of SE idiotic designs and encourage them to engage with its community to learn how to develop more better flowing systems.

If they would make a global server chat, where you can only post when you are around lvl 30 (to prevent gilspam), people would not abuse the mentor chat as a globalchat.

Ohhhhh, it's server-wide? No wonder.

That's fair enough, but if you actually read my thread, I wasn't complaining about "socializing" in the first place. Spam and trolling is still against the rules regardless. At least those are still valid kicks.

Even so. People with the common thought when ground rules are placed slowly spread and trickle down to the other 3000 or so mentors in the server. Much like any MMO, people develope a common courtesy/standard as to how to behave or act in a channel. Mentors can easily throw out an announcement every hour or so to the new Mentors or Novices joining the channel on channel etiquette.
