Battle Regimen Suggestion

I think the following would completely fix the battle regimen system:

When someone stacks an ability on the BR queue make it so the stamina required for that ability is 'set aside' or grayed out so it is unusable. Allow the people who have stacked abilities to continue to fight normally while their ability is stacked except they just have to use a smaller stamina bar. Once the BR activates the player is given back the 'set aside' stamina and they regain their full stamina bar. This allows BR's to not break the flow of battle.

The other thing that needs to be fixed is the glitch where the BR's wont activate and you have to go passive in order to quit out of it.

really nice suggestion there. i think that would work perfectly. i'd also like to see the player's battle actions staggered somewhat to resemble that of a skillchain in XI as opposed to everything firing off all at once.

I like the idea.

It does seem like everything stops when doing a BR, but if your group can get it off quick enough, there is very little impace to the party flow. The stamina bar is quite large, and if done properly and promptly, you can do a BR before your stamina bar maxes out, which means you didnt 'lose' any 'turns'. One big problem comes when you have your healers/mages participating in the BR and then they need to heal someone. That is where the OP's suggestion would be most helpful.

why not just let the BRs happen as the moves are completed in order like in ffxi? im not sure the necessity of the stacking at all.

Because then performing them would be incredibly hard to organize and if people used abilities in between it could mess up the regimen. The stacking I think works better than ffxi's system they just need to tweak it like I originally posted so it doesn't mess up the battle flow.

im talking about the same thing ffxi had and it was messed up the same way you are talking about but without having to hit an extra button to do it.

The regimen is a great system and should be kept, no ifs, ands or buts. Ill admit that attacking during the regimen stack would be a nice thing, at least to wait up for laggards, I'm sure such a thing will not come without a penalty, maybe no TP generation for attacking during a regimen stack while you are stacked or no use of self buffing abilities or other WSs and whatnot (although you're going to be a statue if you buffed yourself with single use buffs anyway.)

The difference between a regimen and XI, for the people that are suggesting it, is that I don't end up with Detonation as opposed to Distortion if someone decides to jump the gun, and then the fight gets prolonged. With attacks organized as types and manually triggered, this issue is gone, and the mages don't need to wait for the regimen to happen, they can jump in and get their bonus damage, provided another one can pick up the slack by them not being able to cast. I only need to worry about type order, not WS order, and I don't need to memorize the individual elemental affinity properties of each WS.

This suggestion is a good one nonetheless.

I agree with the stamia idea and I think it could add something to the system if implemented correctly. However I do have to disagree with asra on the detonation-distortion problem. I like that this could happen, it means you not only need to pay attention to your actions but watch what others are doing as well, I admit that in a fast paced environment with 18 people, this is not easy, but I like being required to try to see what others are doing. Right now in the current system I can ignore what others are doing and do my own thing, I don't feel like we are working together. A BR pops up I hit my button I wait, something happens, I go back to doing my own thing. It somehow feels less dynamic and personally interesting. I don't have a chance to anticipate what somoene else is doing, and I am not rewarded for trying to, I just respond to a command and ignore the rest. I admit, it might not necessarily work well in a large encounter, but then again I feel that the current encounters are missing much as it is. I just would like to think there is some middle ground here for me to enjoy this game.
