maybe you forgot that gatherers and crafters are mentors too and they don't have to reach the combat requirements to become a mentor and new players do not need to know about special strartegies used in the hardest fights of the game and a many raiders are bad in other fights because they have done them 1 time and not practiced them 400 hours like savage fights.
My biggest issue with the NN is the fact there is no choice. You get added to it as a very new member, particularly on PS3/4 this is annoying as it takes a while to learn how to do things like change what chat channels you're in with a controller. And the time after kicking is ridiculous! Someone can request to leave or be kicked and if sprout be added back against their will in only 30 mins. A mentor can be kicked for something terrible yet is back within 3 hours.
Reading through those notes, I think it'd be good if people can be in longer than the 40 hours. I know I still felt I needed advice at that point! But the fact that non-sprouts can be in it now removes the only option people have to leave completely, removing their sprout. I hope something robust will be in place to give more freedom for players to be in or not.
As to the chat issue, I see mentors having a chat and people asking for help. It's been nice so far. The one-on-one thing people are suggesting wouldnt work for a couple of reasons- maybe, even if set that for example a conjurer can only ask whitemage mentors, maybe the question isnt class/job specific. maybe that question can be answered so much better by someone who just happens to be ast. And I've seen novices helping novices which is great! Who better to ask where the third X is on a certain level 4 quest or whatever- someone who did it last week or someone who hasn't done it for months or years?
But the biggest thing I want is mentioned in those notes. I'm a DoL/H mentor. I have 12 level 60s in FF and only one can do dungeons. I can answer all story and any whm/heals questions, I know the best way to get to X location and the best site for hunt log help. It's my time in the game. However I can't offer endgame tank advice, I can't talk about the newest raid.... but um.... the novices are novices, they usually are asking about retainers or when you get a choco not materia advice on 200+ gear! I'd love a symbol that says I'm a DoL/H mentor.

Some will be offended, but I'm sorry. I believe to be a mentor, people should have all the original classes past level 50. Not just one. My originals are all at least 50, 7 are level 60, so I really don't care to listen to someone who knows less than me. I took the time to level all so I knew their basics and so should the mentors.

Seen a screenshot floating around of a character with all 60's the names are blocked out but don't want to post it because I think it still counts as name and shame just like my last image long story shots, all classes were leveled to 60, the character was playing as a Warrior, they didn't know what a tank swap was or what a buff is they weren't a mentor but it goes to show how anyone can become one but I guess the main thing is as long as these pretend mentors aren't giving out misinformation and aren't joining the mentor chat for no reason then there's no harm right?

Time does not equal knowledge or skill so having everything maxed is irrelevant. My only three combat classes are the healers and I play all three at a very high level with a deep understanding of the mechanics of each. So should those aspiring healers in the system be forced to settle for someone with less actual expertise than me just because I didn't level the other battle classes?
That doesn't make sense. I don't look for someone with all jobs maxed when I want advice on another job. I look for the person who plays that specific job well, and is likely known for playing that job in linkshells or party finder regardless of how many other jobs they have leveled.

You're right having everything leveled means nothing as well. I went through Saint Mocianne's and the healer had everything to 60 and sported "The Fortunate" title but couldn't heal at all, so she/he most likely auto leveled everything. Regardless the mentor system is a nice idea in theory and I'm sure it has helped some but implementing a voice chat in game would have been better as some people can't type fast or have dyslexia and don't want type. Having every class leveled however should still be required. Just because I don't play a class as main doesn't mean I don't know that monks are positional or that tanks should have oaths up etc.

Requirement should still have been having a dps, healer and a tank class above 50 for this mentor system just in my opinion. Players are using to benefit themselves and not that of others from what i have been reading

If you cant do your job at 60 you have 0 right to mentor anyone on anything
I can turn that argument around and say that quite a few people don't enjoy voice chat, either because they are a not very social person, display anxiety when they have to talk to strangers, or just don't have the hardware that comes with a decent microphone. You're right having everything leveled means nothing as well. Aside that, there's already Discord/TS/Skype available for the willing that give their trust into the hands of a mentor, so developing inGame voice chat seems to be wasted resources.
