Congratulations on emulating an Operating System that lets you pretend you're a PC.

On top of that, Apple fans are the most elite of all! You yourself started a thread wanting to know of others who are playing this game on a Mac. I don't recall ever seeing any "HEY PC BROS DO YOU PLAY THIS GAME ON PC??" threads on here.

Like I said before, there's nothing special about owning a Mac (or a PC for that matter). Get over it.
What are you? Some psychic? How do you know that I created this thread simply to feel special? As I said, my intention was to know how many others players use a MAC. That was about it. I don't feel special nor do I think I am better than any of you guys just because I use a mac.

I wanted to know if anybody else uses a mac and then you appear from nowhere and claim that I started this thread just to feel special.

Please, if you don't have anything positive to say, except for creating negative assumptions, then go troll on someone else's topic.

Uh...actually, in a way it kind of does make him special. The game is developed for Windows and not technically available for Mac in a commercial sense. By asking if anyone else is doing that, he's looking for a small number of other people who run the game the same he does. It would be kind of like asking if anyone else has tried running the game on a PC that was built as a media center, or if they have a multi-monitor setup, or anything else that would be a smaller group. You're drawing a false analogy by saying it would be silly for someone to ask if anyone else is playing on PC, because that information is assumed of everyone automatically, as it's the only platform the game is available on.

That said, all the arguing has definitely turned it into a pointless thread, and if that was the intention all along then yeah, it doesn't really belong.

I don't understand why people get upset whenever anybody brings the subject of 'macs' with 'gaming'. As long as they work like a charm on macbooks, I don't see the big deal. But of course, since this forum is full of PC elitists, trolls and people who generally full of hate and like to put different people down, this topic will be getting a lot of negativity and mocking.

Just popping in to say I play FFXIV on my Macbook Pro and it runs about as well as you could hope for a laptop (stays around 30 FPS on standard settings + depth of field, dips into the 20s when I'm in Ul'dah), which is just fine in my opinion. This is my only computer, so I was pleased to find that it plays the game a lot better than my old HP HDX 16 did. (How's yours holding up, Andrien? Mine basically kicked the bucket after its screen stopped working entirely. )

I usually play under Boot Camp, but I've also gotten it to run natively using Wineskin. Performance is a little smoother in Windows, but Wineskin is nice for when you don't feel like rebooting, and it actually runs a lot better than I expected once I turned some of the settings down a bit. The only problem is if you like to play with a controller, you'll probably need a program like Gamepad Companion to get the joysticks to work correctly. If you're interested in trying it out, I used this guide to get things set up. Give it a try!

Macs certainly have their own issues (i.e. scant software support, lackluster gamepad integration, and of course the high price tag, among others), but having switched from being a lifelong PC user who thought Macs were totally annoying, I now find myself only booting into Windows when I either want to play FFXIV or run certain 3D modeling software. Later down the line I'll probably build a desktop PC to use for those kinds of things, but for now I find that having just my Macbook Pro has been a very pleasant experience. I think part of the reason Mac users often seek each other out in these kinds of situations is because we often run into unique compatibility issues PC-only users rarely have to deal with, so it's nice to know there are other people out there who can help you figure out how to get things working the way you'd like. Right now PC's are certainly the easiest and most economical way of playing this game (and yes, most others as well), but that doesn't mean those of us who happen to have computers built by Apple shouldn't get to play the game too -- and maybe chat about our experiences doing so and getting the most out of our setups. Plus, most of the time in-game you won't even have to know who's using a Mac (unless their character name is Steve Jobs or something...) so there's not much harm in there being one thread on the forums about it!

Considering a Mac IS a PC, and is really no different from a non Mac Laptop of the same specs if you're running Windows, why the need to feel different by some Mac users, not all, but some. Also, my perspective from using one of the best gaming notebooks there is, it's not smooth even on this thing. So I can't see it running "smooth" on a Macbook, no matter how much you paid for it.

So you advertise that you have a mac, then stamp on pc users. I see little point to this thread?

Good for you! Funny that the people who think this thread is pointless still come to this thread just to say that this thread is pointless. If you find the thread or my question pointless, then move along and post on threads that you are have interest in. Won't you be wasting your time posting on a thread you think is pointless?

I enjoy gaming too much to do it on a laptop. My laptop is running a linux build for school/work purposes.
