M4 was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

The fights are pretty fun so far but I honestly don't like the more humorous aspects of Alexander in general. It makes me feel like I'm doing Hildibrand content instead of the game's flagship raid. (Not that I mind the Hildibrand stories—I would just prefer a different tone for the raid).
I feel like they should have taken the story for Alexander a bit less seriously than they have, and simplified it a bit as well. While Midas is much more interesting than Gordias, it still failed to really grab me.
You know what did grab me? BRUTE JUSTICE. Holy cow A8. The rest of Midas was fun but A8, on top of being a fun fight in general (feeling somewhat like a mobile Titan), had amazing presentation and had my whole group of friends laughing like idiots.
While it would probably would have gotten backlash being a follow-up to Bahamut, I feel like Alexander would have been so much better as a comedy-focused raid and had more floors like A8 (and to a lesser extent with the cat, A7) throughout the entire thing. Make the plot about the Illuminati reviving Alexander to drain the world of aether to use in the creation of THE ULTIMATE CHEESE or something; make Alexander a legitimate threat to the realm, but justify it with the Goblins being dumb (Cid alluded to this when Alexander awoken, exclaiming 'that's not a toy, it's a bloody primal!'). I thought I wanted something as grandiose as a followup to coil but Midas has made me realize that Alexander is at it's best when not trying to be Bahamut 2 in terms of tone.
EDIT: Not trying to imply that the story be something akin to Hildibrand (slaptstick) but something more akin to a Saturday morning action cartoon. Make Alexander a big, scary, legitimate threat but the Illuminati using it to accomplish a really dumb goal, as it's really difficult to take the Illuminati seriously, no matter how much of a legitimate threat they may be.

My favorite minor moment was when you walk into A8 and the boss is literally a crappier, smaller version of Manipulator, with the same mechanics, then the fight becomes so much more. It deliberately sets itself up as rehashed garbage and then isn't.
Last 2 fights take far longer than they should.
Been years since using this forum. @_@
I chuckled in A7 when i saw the cat had the same name as my character. Originally i thought "Oh, its targeting me i guess" then a buddy was like "Nope, cat's name is Shanoa!"
The entire fight is just gloriously designed as a whole, and I'm pretty sure this will get even better on Savage.
Has anyone else noticed how extremely well the music goes along with the fight? Like, there's the cheering (Goblin) kids right before the chorus part starts, and this happens at roughly the same time that Brute Justice fires its super-flashy Mega Beam, then the split robot phase starts while the chorus goes full force, and the song repeats as Brute Justice recombines after the phase. There's even more minor things such as the first Super Jump hitting at the same time the trumpets join in again after a shorter period that's relatively calm. Same thing happens when the explosion AoEs start.
You are now aware that in M4, you play the opening song of a Super Robo show for Gobbie kids in which you and your raid group are the villains. Boom.
It sort of goes out of sync after the first iteration, but I assume this is because it's normal mode. The second part of Ravana's theme, for instance, also only really works well on Extreme - where like half the mechanics line up with the song structure and lyrics.

I guess the references were lost on me (I don't know any voltron and all I know about power rangers is that they are weird dudes in colorful outfits who fight for justice or something).
The whole self-pity "story" around Midas made me loathe Alex in general even more, the goblins were still annoying.
BUT. The fights had fun and interesting mechanics which I enjoyed a lot
So it's still a huge step up from Gordias.
