I saw within the last few days (somewhere!) that a dev said they would release a list of what gear breaks into what materia.

Need some help finding that post.

Any help is appreciated. Searching for it is horrid.

I think you're referring to Gamer Escape's interview with Yoshida:

Gamer Escape: When I’ve converted some strength rings I’ve been getting Mind Materia! Is the Materia you get from an item random? Is there a chance of getting better Materia if you repair the item before converting it?

Yoshida: First of all, it is not random. There is a table we have with each item in it and that item will have a possibility of turning into one of these. That table is currently a secret, but we’re going to be releasing it very soon so players will know what items will turn into what Materia.

I know Crafter tools only gives Craftsmanship/Magic Craftsmanship/Control materia.

How stupid. No offense. I'm getting kind of tired of being spoon fed. We would have figured out the materia table on our own, people, once we all started using a good wiki collectively (GE). We also would have eventually figured out hate mechanics without a flashing red light, mob levels without it right in our faces, aggressive or not without a big red sea urchin by the name... *eyeroll* ok I'm done.

Actually, we asked this question because we wanted to know so we could make changes to the wiki. If its random.. there's really no way to catalog any of it. However, if there is some type of pattern or set of Materia that one item can produce we can make changes to the item templates to reflect that Wasn't expecting the data to be handed to us.. but it's a nice plus!
