Mispronounciation of Word in "Consequences" Main Story Quest

A minor thing I felt to address.

I believe Thancred pronounces the word chirurgeon as written rather than how it should be pronounced. It's supposed to be pronounced exactly like surgeon and just follows a more phonetically archaic spelling based on old French. Think of it as the soft 'ch' in champagne.

Given all the French-inspired names and terminology in Ishgard, this stood out to me.

Yeah, he pronounces it incorrectly. It's similar to how 'gaol' is spelled differently, but is pronounced the same, as 'jail'. I doubt they would change the vocalizations seeing as how expensive it would be to rerecord.

As far as I can tell, the word 'chirugeon' is actually a created word and basically refers (in the context of in-game lore) to a quack doctor who uses blood-sucking insects (read: chigoes) to try and suck the disease from the patient (there are times also in the game when the word 'leech' is used in a similar way, referring to a doctor who uses leech therapy instead of the creature used in it). In fact, in the Minion Guide the description for the Chigoe Lavae minion clearly mentions the word in this context.

So definitely 'working as intended' here.

Also, the word 'gaol' is the grammatically correct UK English spelling with 'jail' the American English spelling, but due to American popular culture increasingly influencing the English language worldwide, the US spelling has now become more familiar to most people and thus a lot of (particularly younger) people may get caught on this thinking it's a spelling error when it most definitely is not. But that's enough of me being pretentious about language.

I do not play in English, so I do not know how they pronounced it and I agree that in French, chirurgien starts with a soft "ch" as in Champagne. However, Wiktionary says that in UK, it should be pronounced with a "k" sound. This is consistant with the Greek root χειρουργία, kheirourgía.

Nah it is actually archaic english, and it was odd to me when Thancread said it-way to many r's.

    Edit:
Went back over the CS, and the VA does use the correct pronunciation from here. TIL.
