Veteran PvPers Ignored (PvP Ranks)

First I'd like to say that I love the way the new PvP gear looks as (to me) mage gear has never looked so friggen awesome. I also loved the addition of 2 cosmetic items for the orchestron in the Wolves Den Pier shops giving exclusve gear for PvP mode and I gladly wait for the new PvP mode. So thanks. X)

Now straight to the point. PvP Ranks are useless. Just as useless as Achievement points. For those who actually grinded and played Frontlines and Sieze for days on end sacrificing your time for those GOD AWFUL wait times just to increase your rank, your work and effort is for naught. What makes you think we wouldn't care? Or I guess you don't care anyway, fine (also with the fact that your rank for some stupid reason balances player compositions between matches for PvP Wolves Den, also crippling your chances of getting into matches in the first place even though you earned your rank by sucking badly 600 times most likely pitting you against people to raise that loss count).

PvP gear. I loss around 350 and won about 120 matches just to get my 120 blackmage outfit I wanted, and I felt proud of myself, as many others too I'm sure. And what happens? The rank requirement vanished......Ok then. The other gear still has a rank so maybe they're just raising the bar a bit, who knows. Loss 480 times and won around 200, I'm rank 50 and have my newly obtained PvP gear. The whm outfit looks bad to me but the other stuff is nice so I feel like I accomplished something here. Big long awaited patch happens............................... Should I even care? Should I buy your PvP gear? You know what, I will. I will buy your PvP WHM outfit. Glamour it over my BiS gear. And hand it to my retainer. I don't even. And now the kicker that annoyed me the most is that this time, you didn't even wait. No rank requirement.



Actually I'm a little glad you didn't this time. At least I don't feel like a moron after grinding my butt off some more to reach rank *60* just so I can wear some gear that'll have its rank removed as soon as I reach the rank required for it anyway. Thanks. I really can't tell if the devs actually care for PvP right now, but I'll just have to wait and see what you have in store for PvP since you now have a "Scheduled Plan" for PvP updates. I'll give it 3 tries. After that I'm done with it. It literally makes me feel like a sucker doing all of that grinding too. appreciate it.

Srry for the rant. Feel free to share your thoughts on this topic. If you have no problems with it and you have not actually attempted to get your rank higher to get blocked gear, still feel free to comment. I'm just not going to care much of what you have to say. And no, attention to PvP and opening it up to newer players is no excuse to the treatment for your veterans. It does not justify the action. Its not right.

Ofc this guy loves the new system. He has been advocating for rankless gear since he realized he had to do more than 10 matches to get that "cool" glamour.

I agree. I don't have time with my job to be able to ever raid so I'm always locked out of that gear, but queueing for pvp was never a problem because I could do it on my own time. The first set I got was the Hawkliege one and I had it sitting in my inventory for quite some time before I was able to wear it, but knowing that I was working my way towards it was what kept me going and when I finally got it I felt a great sense of achievement. It was cool having something limited that I actually had worked for and when I saw others with the sets we had a sense of camaraderie because we know we both when through the same grind. Now the gear has no sentimental value at all.

I didn't even queue up today at all, I'm just not feeling it. I know it may not matter as much to other people but this really hurt my sense of purpose in the game.

For 1 who cares extremely little about glamour, I'd still rank to get those skill points. To me that is the reason, not a new costume. Rank 49 - 50 are useless though.

I think they wanted to treat ranks as PvP "levels" and those AP:s are our "skill points" or something like that, so removing ranks from gear kinda makes sense. They still need to do something with those 2 unusable AP's tho.

Well, gears require a level as well. So it doesn't make sense at all to remove ranks from gears. Wolve's Den is for fun, they decided to remove ranks from gears so more people could join when they could have just did a PvP arena that can be accessed any time since it's just for fun.

What they did wasn't smart at all.

You're being a little short sighted. You're right that a lot of us are pissed that we worked so hard to get rewards, only to have SE tell us it was a worthless waste of time, but that's not the biggest problem with this change.

Bringing new people into the game mode is great. We need as many people to join as possible (so, why in the flying hell some of this armour is so ugly is beyond me... Nice helmet, btw), but getting people in the door is not enough. They need a reason to stay. A lot of semi-casual players only kept playing because they knew that there was a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Now there's ... nothing, really.

Tome bonuses should keep people into it for a while, but we've all seen how that goes. It will keep queues steady for however long it takes people cap up on their gear, and then they'll die again. Not to mention the fact that it removes the incentive to actually win the match, which is more important to a lot of veteran pvp players than some vanity pieces.

If SE wanted to encourage more people to join, then yes, this change was good. If they wanted to foster a strong PvP community with healthy competition, then this change alone is not enough. It gives no one a reason to keep playing, and it gives no one a reason to actively try and win matches.
