Crafters are fairly generous most of the time. Even if you give them 5k gil for a few melds they would feel appreciated.
You didn't see the bit where I said many crafters are not willing to do forbidden melds (pentameld) for others, I take it. People don't feel comfortable with not knowing just how many materia will be lost during the process; they feel guilty if melds constantly fail. I know lots of top tier crafters & most won't go past one forbidden meld as the success rate drops ridiculously low afterwards. It's fine if you're losing *your* materials, but not when it's someone else's.
