Just wondering if anyone knows if SE has any plans of porting a Linux/Ubuntu/SteamOS version? In reality this game is the only thing keeping me on Windows. Seeing as they have made a OSX version it wouldn't be impossible.

I doubt there's enough demand for it.
Two issues: as you mentioned I very much doubt they are compatible. There's no standard Linux unlike Windows and there's just not enough users to justify one.
The macOS client isnt actually a new client it's the Windows client with a compatibility wrapper; in fact it functions the same as Wine on Linux./

There's plenty of how-tos on the Wine AppDB on how to get FFXIV working. (It still won't work quite as on Windows. Dual-booting for games is still the best option).
I had 1.0 somewhat successfully running through wine. I haven't had a linux machine any time recently so I don't know how compatible ARR will be.

That's the trouble. I have seen people getting it to run through wine on Ubuntu but its all that messing about with Winetricks and what have you. Me and Wine don't mix. (Not talking about the drink either ) :P
maybe since the vulkan api was just release they mite think of putting it on linux?
