Lessons you wish Stone, Sky, Sea (or Mentors) would teach

Or, that you wish a mentor of the particular type, if skilled, would teach:

    (Doesn't have to be realistic.)

    e.g.

    Tanks:
    • Minimizing angular movement of mobs.
    • Timing stuns and pacifies (largely for the above purpose).
    • Maximizing blocks and parries via turning.
    • Timing cooldowns for maximum effect.
    • Cooldown deployment rate between pulls.
    • Cooldown usage as to buffer just enough for full healer dps (Banes, Miasma II, Aero III, Holy/Gravity, etc., or for DoT maintanence on bosses).
    • Healer CD awareness and coordination.
    • When to sprint in dungeons.
    • Balancing enmity and dps.
    • Directing kill order directly (marks).
    • Directing kill order indirectly (who you debuff or place enmity on; consistency in general order rules).

I'm suddenly very worried I'm a terrible tank. In what tanking situations do you sprint in dungeons? I think I've only ever used it to cover ground after a wipe. I agree with your first suggestion the most. Too many tanks turn monsters unnecessarily, making it hard for melee dps to aim their positionals.

I doubt it would be included, but I wouldn't mind a summery of common courtesies for your role/job. Things like not using fluid aura when melee members would have to chase the monster or advising tanks to stay put once they've finished their pull so that dps can drop their ground AoE with confidence.

Its mostly a DRK / PLD thing, since neither initially needs TP for their AoEs. WARs will do so too at some points though. It's mostly to allow you to save your CDs for when every mob has arrived during large, multi-group pulls by avoiding any and all damage mid-pull by being out of reach. Healer keeps up along the way, only healing if all mobs have threat on them (harder for a PLD to pull off without taking some damage than a DRK, but leaves more mana for the end), all meet at the gather point, AoE everything down before you and your healer are totally out of CDs.

Saving Mercy Stroke killing blow for the tank when in a pinch would be another courtesy I wish people would do on occasion. That's a lot harder to perfect, though, as leaving the mob up too long would be counter-intuitive to that self-heal.

"If you really insist on running around like a chicken with its head cut off, please at least lock-on target the enemy."

Advice to BRDs and MCHs before Gauss/Minuet. For the love of the Twelve-
(A lot of people don't know that you have to be facing the enemy for auto attacks to hit.)

Healers to not spam cure on a tank that's at 95%.

I have self heals, let me make use of them!

The fact that no matter what you do on Duty Finder, if the 3/7 of the people with you are bad, there's no point in trying.

I dont know that we need to actively teach new people that some of the people playing with them suck. If theyve ever played another online game, they probly already know this.

What mentors should teach are things we all have had to told on some green leafs at times in low dungeons:
To tanks: yes, you need to keep all mobs of a group hitting you. Those little yellow arrow things show all mobs that come when you hit on monster. You need to engage all of them instead of just trying to kill the one. Don't worry, the dps are there for the killing purpose, you need to keep things hitting you.
To healers: it's your responsibility to heal, but you don't need to do so if majority of the heal would go over the cauge, that just makes monsters want to eat you for no particular purpose. You can fairly safely let the tanks health drop to about 80% and heal only then. In the meanwhile, if you have too much time and mana you are allowed to whack monster or two.
To dps: while doing single target damage, sharing is caring. Please do pick the same monster to kill. And don't run ahead of tank. Let the tank get things hitting him before getting all stab/jab/blast happy.

Yes I know some of those advices can be sidestepped later on when knowing ones role well, for example how low health to get for the tank etc. These are meant to those rather new to this whole team play thing.

If you say 'pls' because it's shorter than 'please', I say 'no' because it's shorter than 'yes'.

    Stutter-stepping for casters.
How tanks can avoid LoS attacks with no telegraph (Void Thunder, Slipstream etc)
Do not use pushback attacks on non-large enemies.
Do not use HoTs between pulls for healers and how to cancel HoTs for tanks.

Honestly as A BLM I wished the dummies would make me move more based on the mechanics of the fight I am training for. I am going to make myself move while DPSing after I have cleared the dummy one time for each one just for my own sake, but it would be nice if that were a system implemented in the game as well.

Pretty much, I just wish there were more mechanics evolved with these as the way they are atm, is just "can you play this role with no obstacles well enough?" XD
