From Mr Bean to Jet Lee [New Ninja]

    Hi,

I have been around FFXIV for 3 months now, jumped from War to Mch to SMN. but I think I am getting into Ninja and would like to have this as my main progression class.

With this in mind at the moment I am bumbling around like Mr Bean in the snickers adverts.

I am on PS4, can anyone recommend UI / Macros and guides that will help me get up to speed.

I have been around MMOs for a long time, so I have a core knowledge of melee dps. Though i would like to master the class and not be a general jack.

I'm on ps4 myself. Don't have any macros that I use, but you definitely need to be able to use the R2 + L2 x-bar.

Step one, get extended hotbar turned on
Step two, this is the only macro you should write for Nin.
    /micon shukuchi
    /merror off
    /ac shukuchi <t>
    /ac shukuchi

Step 3, look up a Nin guide, I'd link you but I'm on mobile atm, there are even some on the forums here.

I use this macro since it saves me a hotbar space.

    /ac "sneak attack"
    /ac hide
    /micon "sneak attack"

    and this too

    /ac "kiss of the wasp"
    /ac "kiss of the viper"
    /micon "kiss of the wasp"

And this macro works like a normal teleport, but will instantly take me to a target if I have one selected.

    /ac shukuchi <t>
    /ac shukuchi
    /micon shukuchi

Good luck with NIN. As a NIN main since ROG released, it will wear you out in prolonged battles. You cannot let up on your attacks, because one wrong move and you'll be thrown off and will spend time trying to catch up.

Also, develop a thick skin. While NIN has good dps, it's use shine from it's utility. So when that BLM and DRG knock you from Number 2 to number 5 on the hate list, don't feel bad.

^ You can assign this macro to your right analog stick for even more efficient aiming.

As far as cross-hotbar setup, I personally have mine set up without any macros and am able to fit everything just fine (with extended hotbar L2+R2 and R2+L2). I set 2 vertical hotbars to the left of my cross-hotbar so I can set the icons for abilities that I can't see 100% of the time. I dont actually use those abilities with the vertical hotbars, I just use it to track my cooldowns.

Lastly, I would recommend really minimizing what you use for macros because Ninja is very busy weaving cooldowns, casting Mudra, etc. Macros don't queue and it can really kill a Ninja's flow.

I agree with what Darkstride is saying. Macros honestly kill what flow Ninjas have, as we're constantly having to cast different ninjutsu and inflicting DoTs on the target. I only have one and it's for Shukuchi on R3. Try and get extended hotbar set up as it honestly has worked wonders for me. Good luck mate!

Thank you all for the advice.

I am now just past 40 with my ninja and getting used to the combos.

I have the Ninjutsu abilities on L2+R2 seems to be working well.

with combs on R2 going x, square - triangle or x, square - circle. and all GCD or buffs on L2.

Question, for raiding is there any DPS we should not be grouped with as we duplicate workload. I think someone said DRG we share debuffs or something with. For example: if a static had a MNK, they wouldn't take a NiN

From what I read you are only using the L2 + R2 there for a single cross, so you only have 24 keys there.
Set it so L2 > R2 leads you to one and R2 > L2 leads you to another for 32 keys.

    For example:
    L2 > R2 = Set 2 Left side
    R2 > L2 = Set 2 Right side

Also be sure that the set you are designing as the extended and the one you are using for battle aren't shared between jobs, because that will only make things messy.

I would recommend to throw Goad, Smokebomb, Venoms, Hide and Death Blossom on another set for special cases. Since they are not of regular use
