    1) Google/Bing translator should be a no no for any important post One miss word and the whole thing falls apart

    2) I would rather him focus his time on the game than learn english.

I'm disappointed in the PERSISTANT lack of English-speaking in this large Japanese corporation across two generations, let alone a global corporation. Nevermind a global one where 2/3 of their revenue comes from english-speaking regions and 3/4 of their goal revenue is set to come from non-japanese regions in 2011 per their end of 2010 investor meeting.

English is the international business language, and Japan has largely embraced and led that push. I've had several friends study abroad in Japan, and they all say there is no lack of English-speaking there ESPECIALLY in the business world.

They don't have a single significant person on the team who speaks English in 2010? That right there is a huge lack of buffer against disaster.

They have to know English. SOMEONE has to learn English. Has to. Square Enix is not going to be able to handle another decade of oursourced localization and contracted translators to take the pulse of the gaming world for them.

They've had a decade to find a videogame developer who knew English to be a big part of this project. And they don't have a single one.

If they fix the "Dev Tracker" button to indicate posts instead of entire 20 page threads, I think more forum-goers will be able to translate it.

One thing to translate it, another to sift through hundreds of posts to find something worthwhile to.

I know right? Hell, even I know basic japanese and also have a willingness to learn more, and I don't even have a monetary icnentive to do so. You'd think given the fact that they have english lessons on trains in Japan these days that some people high up in SE might have taken the initiative/embraced to concept of learning a different language.

Google Chrome has an auto-translate feature that works fairly good in my opinion. It'll translate the entire page in about 1-2 seconds. I can get the jist of most of what is written. You have to look more at the main ideas behind a sentence or paragraph and not the literal words because of the difference in language structure.

I don't want to come off as SPEAK AMERICAN/ don't mess with Texas here. But the standard in their business world is facility with the English language and they just haven't done it because they don't think they have to. No other excuse.

This is one department where Square Enix should have taken it upon themselves in 2000 to ELIMINATE this barrier by 2010. They say their main goal is globalization, but they seem to make no real efforts toward setting up success in that department. They're still the same isolated JP company they were when Ted Woolsey wrote whatever the hell he wanted. They just have better contractors who will go to intricate lengths to translate japanese into Pirate.

But when it comes to interacting and understanding what the DOMINANT videogaming world wants...they have nothing. After 20 years of dwindling JP influence and rising NA and European influence...no progress to keep up. No indication of flexibility and change.

I really do think this is the plight of the JP videogaming industry right now. It's a main cause for DQ9, FF13, and FF14's poor reception. And it is a huge cause for this game's faceplant on launch. We sent them 20,000 suggestions. That's our way of saying WHAT IS THIS???
