I guess what this shows if if a player knows their rotation well enough to have the required DPS for a boss, and I think that's a good starting point for any DD. I was very happy to be able to beat the A4S dummy on my SMN which has stats on MND (I main in and raid with SCH).

Yea, I agree with you that it seems lackluster. You just sit there hacking away at it with your strongest combo and upkeep your dots. But it COULD be used well by some if they use it outside of being a simple DPS check method. I can see it being nice for testing out NEW combinations to see the time difference with your previous rotation. Perhaps see the difference of upkeeping storm's eye in comparison to just butcher's blocking. Or seeing how much DPS loss it is to use RoH in order to upkeep the debuff in comparison to just spamming awya RA while upkeeping goring blade.

It could also be useful in showing new players entering into higher end game content the difference in combinations of rotations (instead of just saying it) as it's easy to just fly over to the area and watch someone there.

But personally, if I was watching a PLD on any of these and saw they weren't upkeeping goring blade dot and RoH debuff, that would be where I'd be judging (not on whether they could break the dummy). But at the same time, that almost seems slightly dishonest to bring a newbie to this and him thinking he just needs to break the dummy (but will hopefully make him/her better). But overall, in the end, you're not dodging any AoE's, worrying about any mechanics, lag, or checking for debuffs from other team members to maximize your own move sets. All of these things could also be done at ANY testing dummy. The only difference is the hp bar/defense really. You can still see the same results on a normal dummy.

I am asking because when it comes to Bard/MCH whose DPS are statistically lower than that of other DPS, I feel they are going to have a harder time taking out a trial, even if their gear is the same item level as a Monk

At one item level higher (negligible because it put us at similar crit values), me and my static monk tied at about 5 seconds left on the sephi ex trial. I get the impression these are based on job. I get the distinct impression that each trial's dps check is mostly looking for proper burst etiquette post opener as well as in your opener, so depending on how your rotation operates, the dps checks (while most likely much less tight in the actual fights), are mostly in place to push players out of their comfort zones if their rotations up to now weren't actually great.

The only difference is the hp bar/defense really.

Mobs (or dummies) don't have defence. HP is the only varying factor. That's why DPS is always the same in similar conditions.

Yeah its by role I'm pretty sure, but as a BRD/MCH we are expected to be brilliant whereas MNK/BLM/DRG can do poor number (for their job) and down it. Since it doesn't give a dummy that fit BRD/MCH DPS.
I've down Sephi EX dummy as BRD and had only 3 seconds left on it (I missed one IJ I think), I expected it to be easier than that.

FWIW, I ran the following dummies on MNK (i210 w/ upgraded eso weapon, solo, no food, no pots, sample size of 1):
A3S: Killed with 20 seconds left
A4S: Killed with 10 seconds left
Sephirot EX: Killed with 11 seconds left
A5S: Killed with 4 seconds left

I honestly thought I wasn't going to make it on the A5S one. lol

I wish there was some sort of personal record kept for it so there's no need to eyeball kill times.

Hi! some "nerfed tank" :P feedback :

I ve been able to consistently kill the A4S dummy as an i209 DRK in full fending Eso gear (so absolutely non BiS at all), except Nothung, and loads of parry on my accessories.

Did 17 tries: only failed the first one (<1%) due to brain lag.

-> average of 5s left without food nor potion.
-> average of 9s left with cheap food and potion.

No party buff.

I m quite happy even if i dont raid . I worked a lot on my opener and on the way to weave my off gcds in my combo so this dummy thing kinda validates my work (im on ps4, that was boring to ask friends to parse me all the time). Also these trials helped me to pay even more attention to my MPs. That was good lesson.

General feeling is that my best kills had the most crits, so now i ll be looking to improve crit rate. I ll put some records on my youtube this weekend to watch the rotations at work

Very positive feedback . Havent unlocked the next trials.

Edit: only tried thordan ex dummy twice, got killed with 27s and 29s left. The A4S one is much harder has it needs one more "no blood weapon" phase - with less dps - to get killed

35 seconds left on Thordan as an SCH. I mentioned it I'm another thread, but I really would like a healer spin on these dummies.

So far it's been a little too easy for healer dps on sch. There isn't a true parse to tell what is working. It's just not realistic. I get that this wasnt made with healers in mind, but next time they should give us 3 additional striking dummies that are being attacked by the striking dummy we fight (think visible charge bars and aoes). The 3 additional dummies should be added to our party when we enter. :3 that I would like to see.

I tried a5s, a6s and a8s dummies today (i212 atm). These were my results:
Killed A5S with 9 secs left
Failed A6S twice by 5%- and then finnaly killed
Then went straight away for a8s and gave one try. Failed it with 16% HP left lol (tbh that one is insane, at least at this ilvl. It's arround 1700 dps/sec for 3 min with no boosts from other classes).
