    230-> 240(Lore) and materia

    The real question... When you upgrade a peice of 230 to 240, do you lose the materia attached?

    I bet you do. I would save the Tier 5 materia for the 240 gear because of this. 230 gear and below will get Tier 4s instead.

    I am fairly certain you lose it; however, can't you remove materia from an item and retain the materia for gil? Like from the goblin in Central Than or something?

    No you destroy the material when you remove it.

    I had been wondering this..I was scared you would indeed lose it.

    I guess on the bright side, it'll let me get most of the tier V I need before I'm geared.

    230 and 240 gear are completely separate items, even if it's a direct upgrade, so I don't see why the materia would stay.

    Luckily at the rate you'll actually get gear you should have enough for new melds each time you get something new. T5s are pretty easy to get what with diadem and void ark and they're already under 1 mil on the market board.

    I'd just use T4s on Midas Normal gear though if you want to meld those, unless you have a lot of materia saved up or a lot of gil.
