Shouldn't have to though, it's clearly a bugged launcher and that should be an easy patch. I wish they separated the launcher from the main game like in FFXI. I think I'll wait it out a bit.
I just bought PSPlus so I won't have to go through this again. This is the second time since 3.0 hit that I've had to completely erase the game and redownload/install everything.
