Same reason they threw in the stopgap crafting recipes and the crazy link system. To throw a band-aid on it until the cure arrives. But ... but... the changes for 1.20 were PLANNED BEFORE 1.19, just not EXECUTED. Their road map is long term and in-depth. Knowing FULL WELL what was planned from at least 1.18 through at least March 2013, why would they purposely flesh both classes out in specific directions for two patches with the intention of (AFTER stabilizing them) BOOM... swapping them?
That's not just nonsensical, it's terrible management and public relations. Yoshida's a lot better at this than that, I'd think. Am I missing something?
Why would you be confused when I've said, from the very first time I posted on this thread, that anything and everything we say is conjecture? Thinking about it at all right now means nothing. I'm being hopeful and I give myself my own excuses. You do the same for your view, only with 1000x the amount of words I use. Thus I never read anything you say because I'm actually in the process of writing my prelim paper and I really need to read these papers to write my background.
So... yes. Seriously.

Ahaha, true and fair and well said, good sir! I won't ever begrudge someone for sticking to their guns if they're willing to admit everything in your post there. I commend it, even. Yeah, I tend to use 1000x the words. For some reason, when I attempt to be concise, people grab the completely wrong part of my sentence and run off with it in some irrelevant direction as if that's the issue I was calling attention to.Why would you be confused when I've said, from the very first time I posted on this thread, that anything and everything we say is conjecture? I figure if I just keep droning on about it and hammering the main idea home and keep adding evidence people will stop saying things like, "WHAT? YOU THINK THE BOW LOOKS LIKE A HARP!? WELL, GIVE ME BACK MY JACKET."

What makes me think the NPCs purpose has changed: The calamity wasn't going to be part of the game since the maps were never going to be developed. The whole story with Cid, Dalamud, the story with the Empire knowing about it... all new. It was even in development over the summer when one of the lore devs broke into the Localization office and told them to name the swimsuits Solar and Lunar instead of Gold and Silver because it would relate more to the coming calamity; implying that this was one of the few things that haven't been set in stone from the start.
I don't deny for a second that a GREAT story could be told for THMs going WHM and CNJs going BLM - I mean... really good. The THMs re-establishing connections with the Nald sect in light of the calamity and rebuilding the Life and Death tradition, giving you the opportunity to spread your wings as a first generation White Mage, the CNJs taking the reins of elemental power after the decimation of the continent and probable weakening of the elemental society... going absolutely darkside on the Empire and Beast Tribes for their hand in the events... it all sounds a LOT better than the other way around.
It's not that I don't think it's a good idea, I just don't see it coming. I do hope Yoshida pulls something out of his hat, but at this point it just wouldn't make a whole bunch of sense to me at all.

Okay, granted they may have been repurposed for future events, but it's worth noting that the existing lore and dialogue for them has not been rewritten to do this. Existing lore has been kept intact. What makes me think the NPCs purpose has changed: The calamity wasn't going to be part of the game since the maps were never going to be developed. Heh, well that's interesting. I didn't expect that you would be in support of the lore/story elements I was suggesting. It seems that we disagree for pretty much the same reasons, then.I don't deny for a second that a GREAT story could be told for THMs going WHM and CNJs going BLM - I mean... really good. In that case, I don't think there's much to say other than to agree to disagree, see what comes over the horizon, and hope Yoshida does what's best. :`

You are most likely correct the calamity wasn't exactly planned for the time being, however the entire Seventh Umbral Era plot does not contradict anything from the original lore. Terms like "Sixth Astral Era" are around since Tanaka's time. I do believe that even the Dalamud / Meteor / Seventh Umbral Era plot was planned since the start, however they would have a much less signficant impact on the greater scheme of things. What makes me think the NPCs purpose has changed: The calamity wasn't going to be part of the game since the maps were never going to be developed. Only thing they actually changed was making Yda, Papalymo, Thancred and Y'shtola all part of the same group. Maybe not even that.

Naw. They've always been the same group. You could tell because they all have the same tattoo. Also, I believe there are a couple times that one will make mention of the others in the quests.

It depends on where most of them came from. I know Y'shtola is from Shama...sma...Sharlayan...M. Night Shyamallamalan (?) -- They did seem to be in contact pre-calamity, but based on the final mission cutscene I think their purpose was to resist the Empire with us, not stop a falling moon that the Empire knew was coming. I honestly think the whole calamity thing was thought up for the map redesign and tied so well into the existing lore that it actually looks like it was planned.
I approach most stuff pretty "Meh" about it, at first - just a little base speculation. But after people actually start going beyond speculation and start being outright mean about it, I tend to take a proportionate amount of satisfaction away from it if I turn out to be right. Old human survival instincts die hard, even when erroneously applied to irrelevant modern bullsh!t.

Again, I think you take this way too seriously. Nobody has been mean to you.I approach most stuff pretty "Meh" about it, at first - just a little base speculation. I think THM will be WHM but it will not be WHM as we have seen before, I am hoping THM will retain it's dynamism and people who want a boring nuke bot will go with Conjury.
