Let alone without any relevant way to get materias...
Yes, but one of the stated (or at least pretty heavily implied) goals with Heavensward - at least initially - was to ease the time and gil investment required to get into endgame crafting, at the cost of having to choose just a few crafts to excel at instead of being equally proficient at everything.
Casual crafting gear that can make you food or glamour pieces (but nothing truly high-end) has its place in the game, but I don't think that place should be something that consumes a resource with a pretty harsh weekly cap and a pretty hefty gil cost of upkeep in filling out 450 Red Scrips a week. I don't think that it's healthy for the game for high-end crafts to be solely the domain with those who have the means and the wherewithal to not only learn how to produce high-end HQ crafts, but to also go through the whole convoluted process of pulling together red scrip materials, crafting the gear, and melding it with millions of gil worth of materia.
It doesn't really affect me personally, but I really enjoy crafting and I wish that the barriers to entry weren't so high that very few people have the opportunity to enjoy it the way that I do.
Well @#$%#@%$ When I first logged in and picked up my book it did NOT show any of the recipies with "Specialist Recipe" labels. Now when I've logged back in they are showing up throughout my leatherbook. So SE has indeed chosen to screw us around the bush on this.

I got the Master Book IV for Goldsmith a few hours ago and guess what, out of 29 recipes, i think, only one is not Specialist. That is, i took a useless book that I won't use a single craft from it. Great, the Devs are out of their minds.
Fully agree, they should have locked the books so we couldn't buy them without the soul crystal. False advertising, I got the books and then found out that not one item in 5 of the 8 books could be crafted. No where in the patch notes did it say these are specialist only crafts. There was no warning when going to buy the book that it would contain nothing I could craft. I now have 5 useless books. Really good work SE, thanks really. I enjoyed the surprise.
Specialist when SE first talked about it at the end of 2.55, it sounded good. I am an omni crafter and I support a system that helps ppl who want to only do one or two crafts at 60 get a boost. Those that wanted to only do one or two crafts to max and not need all the cross class skills. To have the soul and the specialist actions give that crafting job equal or better skills than cross class at level 60. Even give them a boost in stats so they didn't have to meld gear to death. I support this and it would help non omni crafters enjoy the game, the souls used to lock out 5 of the 8 crafts for omni crafters was beyond poor decision making. It would not take more than a day to fix this system so everyone would like it, omni crafter or not. Why they continue the path of killing the fun of crafting is beyond me. Fix it SE.
Specialize would be perfectly fine if one could possible buy another soul stone without limits of drop older ones if past 3. So please free up the specialization stones and let them have the 8
I thought we couldn't expand the inventory/armory chest because of reasons?
Maybe surrender a DoW soul for an additional spec?
