I ran the stats. You can hit 3 star requirements without specialist stat bonuses. The melds are scary. But I'm pretty freaking scary too lmao. I'm not sure if this is possible with the i180 gear. But with the i170 and proper planning its a non issue.

I think full 180 should be able to hit the requirements (didn't check tho ><)but you will be really short on CP

    Nope, it's far off.:/
811 Crafts and only 748 Control (okay add 20 to both because of the specialist crystal)

There are only three 180s that are good, in my opinion. The tools and the chestpiece.

Are the new accessories 3 star recipes and/or specialist?

Also are the materials for the 2 star crafter tools easier to come bye now?

It's a pretty cruel joke SE played by getting people to invest 3+ months per class of red scrip into the i180 gear, only to turn around and have it be almost completely unsuitable for 3-star crafting, unless supplemented by well-melded i170 gear and/or specific foods that don't give any CP, even with the Specialist bonus. I thought for sure that the i180 sets would be taken into account and that my melds were total overkill, only for it to turn out that I don't even meet the requirement without a Specialist soul.

I can only assume that this means that Thursday's hotfix is going to include pretty substantial upgrades that will bridge that gap, but I'd be pretty crushed if I weren't one of those people insane enough to cover my bases by leveling up a couple of alts to cover all eight specializations.

It's a shame, too, because for a person in my situation, this is probably the most exciting patch that crafting has ever seen, but nobody should have to put in that kind of work just to be able to fully participate.

That's not the case at all. It's been understood from the start that the red scrip gear was the "easy" way for casual crafters to gear up, but that serious crafters would want to use the crafted (and overmelded) L170 gear. The latter is a much greater investment, and now we see what the payoff for that investment is.

If nothing else, because the crafted gear can provide more CP --- at least until today, CP was king.

My wife and I used a couple of 180 tools to bootstrap our 2-star crafting, but we have not bought any others red scrip DoH gear.

i180 gear has always been for casual crafters. If you're serious about crafting you would've gone the i170 route.

Yes, but one of the stated (or at least pretty heavily implied) goals with Heavensward - at least initially - was to ease the time and gil investment required to get into endgame crafting, at the cost of having to choose just a few crafts to excel at instead of being equally proficient at everything.

Casual crafting gear that can make you food or glamour pieces (but nothing truly high-end) has its place in the game, but I don't think that place should be something that consumes a resource with a pretty harsh weekly cap and a pretty hefty gil cost of upkeep in filling out 450 Red Scrips a week. I don't think that it's healthy for the game for high-end crafts to be solely the domain with those who have the means and the wherewithal to not only learn how to produce high-end HQ crafts, but to also go through the whole convoluted process of pulling together red scrip materials, crafting the gear, and melding it with millions of gil worth of materia.

It doesn't really affect me personally, but I really enjoy crafting and I wish that the barriers to entry weren't so high that very few people have the opportunity to enjoy it the way that I do.
