Context is key. The post I was responding to said they didn't agree with the information being stored locally. If it weren't stored locally in some fashion, the server would need to do regular checks to make sure they were current, which would increase the server load. That's not the same thing as being able to store backups on the server (like you could do in FFXI), as the server would only need to check the backups when specifically asked to.
But the server doesn't care about the order of your buttons. Sync them once when you log in, sync them once when you log out. That's all there is to it with server side keybinds. I still don't understand why it would constantly have to keep checking them when there is absolutely no reason to.
