Every single time? I don't understand why people are so against this suggestion. Ok, some people only use one platform but is it that much of a stretch to imagine how useful this is for others? Even S-E acknowledge it's useful since they gave us the functionality on PS3 and in FFXI. I have also explained how it's a direct incentive for people to buy multiple copies of the game, leading to more revenue.

(It's also sickening the first time you get a corrupted save file on a console, since without PS+ backing up your character data is a convoluted process which nobody is going to be doing very often. And it's extremely easy to get corrupted character data on a console; all you have to do is log out immediately after changing gear and bam, all of your settings might be gone forever.)

Also in ff11 I never had to buy multiple copies of the game per player, once you had subscribed you could log in on whatever. Ff14 just smacks of milking money
Technically, actually, you DID have to buy multiple copies of FFXI - one for PS2, one for PC, one for XBOX (if you planned to play on all three systems). You have to get the client installed on the machines somehow! Of course, if you had some other way of getting the client installed, such as borrowing from a friend, then yeah, you didn't need to pay for more than one copy. It's true, though, that FFXIV is different in that having the client is not enough on its own, and you have to register on each type of system (which requires buying a copy of each - no more borrowing from a friend!).

You're absolutely right, though, in that FFXIV is SORELY in need of server-side uploading and downloading of macros and settings, much like FFXI had. Trying to keep two systems in sync, updating one every time you update the other, is maddening!

I didn't pay for both personally, my partner bought one for PlayStation and I bought the pc version. We could swap and change who used what, for example if I wanted to watch TV he could log onto the pc. Now in order to do that we'd have to buy 4 copies, plus expansions

Because I pay subs I can't see why I need to pay so much for the client.

With FFXI, you didn't need an authorized copy of the game for that platform, you only needed your account, which only needed *one* copy of the game to get. The other platforms could be installed from used/other people's media and used with the account you had. Can't do that in FFXIV; your account has to be authorized to that platform and you'll need an authorization code from a copy of the game for that platform to do it.

Solution to transfer between clients without hurting server load. Allow an export / import settings option that saves your settings/ui/macros etc to the server that can be imported on the other machine.

EDIT: read a few more posts and saw the backup thing in the launcher. I didn't even realize that was there. That's good, but I think it would be better to have this option in-game, save to the server and be usable on ps4/ps3/pc.

Posting in support of the option to have our UI settings, Hotbar settings, Gearsets, etc. saved server side so that we can simply download them in the event that we would like to play on a different PC/Console.
