It's like Goldy-locks syndrome or something.

Eventually you just need to learn to shutup, with all due respect (i.e., no respect).
I've yet to see titan, but I really dig how ifrit turned out to be. To be specific, when I project my thoughts onto how it's "lacking the feeling", it's lacking the vibe of the ingame world overall. With the map revamps and new additions I'm hoping that it can settle in that "unique world" kind of feeling.

I'm agreeing that I want more of the world to have the originals in. Not sure if you got that...

Edit: hell not just original, just more period.

Vibe? Oh please, could you be any more vague.

Every FF game has been completely different. People say Leviathan in FFXIV is "un final fantasy", did they even see Shiva in FFXIII?

Ifrit in FFXIV isnt exactly preserving the status quo either, and he's all the better for it.

Sometimes an unorthodox approach is needed to keep things interesting. The generic leviathan doesn't inspire FF feelings, it just inspires ZZZZZZzzzz been-there-done-that.

    For you.
It's your opinion and that's cool. But it's exactly that. An opinion.

Personally, I think it's a very well designed "new" Leviathan and I can see it in a battlefield and as a summon. It's traditional enough to feel Final Fantasy but it's updated enough to fit in the XIV world. That's my personal opinion.

Every FF game has been completely different, but they all carry a vibe in which you can relate that its truly a FF game. For me after XI, it went downhill from there.

For the people that believe the leviathan is "un final fantasy" just show em this picture |||.

    well lets see.

The way I see it, this discussion has become more of a matter of opinion between you ( ellohwell) and I. I'll just agree to disagree with you, and leave it at that lol.

Leviathan isn't in the game yet so anything in the dats is subject to change. The new design looks better anyway.

It's not weird at all to see more than 1 model of the same PC/NPC in a game's data, that's actually how a lot of engines handles certain things -- For example a lot of games uses a low-res and a high-res model, high-res model generally being for cinematics, these days though a lot of engines how have seamless transitions which knocked off the need for a low res model.

The only reason I can see for a re-design is as stated earlier, to be more "fitting" with how it generally is in Final Fantasy games, or because like Ifrit, instead of just scaling it, incorporate a new model that's the 'action' model.

I guess they might have needed to redesign it for 2.0.

The bigger one may have raised complications for Free Company summoning.

Still, it seems a bit cheap.

    ZZZZZZZZzzzzz

Boring FF-rehashes putting me to sleep with their lack of creativity.

On one hand it appeals to the FF nostalgia within us all, but on the other it just seems boring and unimaginative and certainly does not inspire us, as a FF game should.

Well and i just found some vids again of the old traditional 2D Final Fantasys...

    if you compare that

Leviathan (?) Final Fantasy 14 - Youtube [Skip to 6:15]

    with

The Evolution of Leviathan Skip to [Beginning] , [2:05] FFIV (2D), [5:28] FFVI (2D)

Almost the same situation.. sailing ship on the sea, leviathan "the lord of the sea" comes up out of a water swirl and uses "tsunami".. a big wave.
yes in FFXIV he was named "the huge sea serpant" within the story... _till then_ .. like he was called "The Lord of the Sea" in traditional Final Fantasys, till you was confronted with him directly.

and i think its abvious, there has to be a reason why that the "sea serpant" appears in FF so "many" times within the storyline.. we dont know about the plans of the old dev team/art design team under the flag of Tanaka.

but if you compare the situations they are ALMOST the same... the 2D situation just has been transfered into 3D.
just do compare the video clips and see yourself.

i think FFII/FFIV and FFVI do show almost the same situation that we have in FF14.. sailing ship.. water whirls and the huge "sea serpant"... dialogues like in FF6 "What is that? is that kind of Sea Monster?!" shows that the people arent sure of it either what it is at first. you can see the dialogues within the vid above.

That fish is not Leviathan. Or have you ever heard that name ingame? It was a monster from Limsa Lominsa Area.
Just what I think about it.
