    ATK+ vs STR+ Materia

    Hey all,

Was wondering if anyone tested the damage output of melding STR+ vs melding ATK+ materia to equipment.

Which would you say yield higher damage output?
And if it was ATK+, why would anyone used STR+ for anything outside of crafting tools?

    Thanks,

Ive been looking for an answer to this as well. I have "heard" strength doesn't do too much, would like to hear otherwise.

A shell mate of mine did some tests with strength materia. The difference of about 63 strength increased her minimum and maxomum damage output by at least 60 on standard hits. This was a 50 lancer versus a 25 mob.

Not sure how attack power plays in all of this.

    STR increases maximum damage range.
    ATK keeps damage near maximum.

    Example:
    Normal damage range 100-130
Increase STR by 20 and damage range will be 120-150
Increase ATK by 20 and damage range will be 140-150

So when making a DD build you would first want to know what is the cap for STR, reach that, then add on as much ATK as you can fit.

Thanks Holyomen. I play a LNC, is there a way to know the max capped damage?

Is this actually tested or just a hunch/wild speculation?

We really need an official response here. Since the removal of physical level AND the introduction of materia SE should have provided information on attributes calculations.

The example shows how it works.
But the actual numbers I gave are not.

Feel free to test it out as I did.
Just whack away on a mob and see what numbers you get, then try it with atk gear, then with str gear, then with a mixture of both.

    A few tips:
Only attack one mob and run away before you kill it to make sure you're testing your damage against the same mob type and level.
No need to use any attacks other than auto-attack.
Slow and Paralyze are helpful to control the pace.
