As for the hidden shield...it would require new animations or it would just look silly, as the left hand would still be miming like it was holding a shield, and with the current animation set if the effect wasn't similar to the above where you have a sort translucent effect (so graphically it appears during various ability animations) it would just end up looking silly instead of cool.
