Do you ever notice that in older FF games, no matter what you equip someone with they still look the same? Any reason Barret should be shirtless even though he's wearing armor? Well, obviously it's glamour!

Sometimes I wish we could get an Emperor's New Scepter; I'd much rather cast with my hands than keep pretending Roegadyns actually use any appreciable amount of any low-level staff they wield.
Have you looked at the casting animation of Cure?
If it were not for the staff, the hand motion alone would look like you want to grope someone! (it already does look like that tho)
If you do Cure or Stoneskin with AST, it still looks weird with your empty hand gripped around nothing; if the spell effect's centered on the hand, it should most likely obscure your weird empty crab claw.
but that's not how glamour works, it would just be an invisible weapon.
black and white mages would look like they're being attacked by a swarm of bees while strange glowy orbs are swinging in arcs around them
astrologians would look like a cat chasing a laser pointer spot
scholars would just be constantly holding one hand flat while shaking a fist above it
dragoons would look like they're miming a janitor sweeping floors
machinists would apparently be the master pointer guy. point, point, spin point, kneel down point
it would look really really bad
you should see lancer using cure it looks like they're spear is floating infront of them
