Nice try, but
The aura surrounding Estinein-Nidhogg was red and black, as opposed to the purple and black aura associated with the Ascians. Intentionally so, as red/black is the aura that was given off by Nidhogg's disembodied eyes.
Not at all like Ascian auras.

Why are people still bringing up Lahabrea? By your logic, shouldn't Haldrath and Archbishop Thordan be in there too?

There is a difference. For this we shall compare and constant how we offed Narbriales and Igiyorum with how Thordian apparently offed Lahabrea
With the lack of a prison for Lahabrea, Thodian having the ability to siphon aether and absorb it and the wellspring being part of the blade itself being factors. It becomes apparently that there is a possibility that Lahabrea became absorbed into Nidhogg's eye, imprisoned, but not destroyed.
- The common threads are that a wellspring of aether and a Blade of Light was involved, but the similarities end there
- In the former two cases we used White Auracite to trap the Ascians in so that they wouldn't escape to the Void (or the nexus betwixt both planes) THEN we used the wellspring to make the Blade and shatter them.
- In Lahabrea's case, Thordian transmutated Haldrath's corpse into Ascalon, with Nidhogg's eye being the wellspring. In addition, Thodian was a primal at the point, a race of godlike beings infamous for chugging down aether like they were frat boys at a college party. The Ascians are made form Aether and He did not use White Auracite. This means that Lahabrea has a sliver of a chance to retreat into the void and come back again (especially since that was exactly what happened last time he got cleaved by the Blade of Light without Auracite) Or more likely in lieu of the Auracite, the eye served the role and thus was not destroyed by The Blade.
Haldrath is already dead, with the eye essentially mummifying him and Thordian was a Primal and thus an inherently aetherial being. So the possibility for the latter are likely, the former is well too dead to back from the grave as a soul.

While I don't think Lahabrea himself has anything to do with Nidhogg being able to change between dragon and human (Estinien) form, I am now thinking that when he does inevitability come back he will now have a dragon form, which will make our true final confrontation with him even more epic (Not, while I say inevitability, thats mostly just because I'm sure he isn't actually dead.)

Regarding Nidhogg. Has anyone noticed that the Ishgardian's motives for sabotaging the peace talks is the exact same reason Nidhogg has for warring with Ishgard (and Estinien's reason for his own enmity for the malice striker)?
That's called irony. Contrary to popular belief, it's not accidental, but rather one of the best tools in a writer's arsenal when illustrating conflicts like this.
Nidhogg's war has allowed man and dragon to find common ground, by killing each other.

Well, since someone mentioned Best Ascian, I suppose there's no shame in admitting it -
When the screen panned in on Nidhoggien/Estinihogg, I kept the dialogue where it was while staring at the red markings on his face, trying to see if it matched up with Mateus' crest.
I was disappointed.
