Well by now we know SE's idea of exploration is to kill dinos for 90 minutes.
Unlocking a map the normal way would be too exciting for us to handle.
Also its not like you can actually find interesting things there.

I could get behind lazy play and defend the hell out of Ice Mages and Auto-attackers, if only because we still have the right to not play with them if we choose, but this is just a whole new level of sickening laziness that I am absolutely disgusted by. There was absolutely no reason for this change and we can't choose to not play with this one. Well while you're in the process of destroying exploration SE why not give us all aether currents upon entering the diadem too, or the ability to teleport to any specific coordinate on any map. You know cause it's way too hard to run around to all those fates and quest markers. OH! Since that's too hard why not just instantly give us full credit for the fate upon entering it too! But then we would still have to teleport to them all to get credit. Just give us level 60 upon logging in along with all BiS gear and an in game bot that plays the game like a pro for us so we can sit back and watch as we drown in our own drool.

Get a grip. This isn't "disgusting". This isn't going to set some garbage precedent for insane laziness like you're overly reactive posts suggests. Exploring maps was tedious, especially since they were rarely very interesting. They are still going to be worth looking around for questing and gathering purposes. This is a minor change meant to help get people to the content that's actually interesting and worth doing.

You are right. I'm so sorry. I really meant to say OMG this change is so amazing SE!!! Thank you so much for removing the horrible burden of mapping this games areas myself!!! You are truly overflowing with wisdom and care for your players, so much so that I can feel it dripping out of every orifice! Please continue to remove boring exploration elements from the game and make it more linear and awesome like FFXIII! I love you SE!!!@ TheUltimateSeph

Honestly, I think they're just starting to do things to streamline the MSQ with an eye toward the 4.0 expansion. *shrugs*
I think some people are really overreacting to what is ultimately a very small change.
It's not really a small change, though. At least not when it's combined with the way in which Diadem was introduced. The game needs more exploration, not less. As much as I loathe to compare the game to other MMO's GW2, Wildstar and WoW all have neat things hidden throughout every zone including environmental hazards, rare enemies, treasure chests and special achievements. I would very much like to see FFXIV take a leaf out of that particular book because whilst many of the zones are very impressive visually once the quests located there have been completed they feel very empty.
Exploration is one of the few Joys. Oh well scrap it took someone more 5han 10 seconds to figure out.
STREAMLIIIIIINE.

I agree with most in this thread, mapping out each zone was/is part of the fun of exploring. I'm disappointed to see newbies won't get to enjoy that like the rest of us have.
A true paladin... will sheathe his sword.

I can understand the dungeons since it's so easy to miss those nooks and crannies in some dungeons like Sastasha, but was it really needed for the 2.0 open world zones?
It's so easy to map them as is and it added to the wonder and amazement of being a low-level adventurer discovering things

I can understand doing this for dungeons especially since I can count on one hand how many times I've encountered people who were willing to explore Sastasha (normal) in its entirety.I can understand the dungeons since it's so easy to miss those nooks and crannies in some dungeons like Sastasha, but was it really needed for the 2.0 open world zones?

As to the other ARR zones, I'm kinda "meh" about it. It doesn't affect me because I already have the areas fully explored.
