I cannot access the "Fire in the Gloom" quest?

Hello everyone,

I've been looking everywhere on how to get the "Fire in the Gloom" quest so that I can do the dungeon after this quest with my friends/guildies, but I cannot figure out to get the quest for the life of me and it's driving me crazy!
I started in Gridania as an Archer, but when I look up how to get this quest, it's basically been telling me that I need to start a new class and level it from either Ul'dah or Limsa Lominsa. Is this truly the only way to unlock this quest and Square Enix just kind of screwed over everyone who started in Gridania?

It's part of the main scenario quest. You may have misunderstood the information you looked up, as you will be able to access this quest.
Main Scenario quests are indicated by the meteor icon, not the more plain looking sidequest icon.

Continue doing the main scenario and you'll get there soon enough!

Hi. You probably figured it out by now but here goes.
When you finish the "Gridania Envoy" and leave the last instance there will be a gentleman standing there with a quest.
He wants you to go to Limsa lominsa to talk to Baderon. Baderon gives you the quest to go to Aleport for the "It's Probably Pirates" and do the Sastasha dungeon.
When you finish there you get to go back to Baderon again. He then gives you a quest to see Mother Miounne in Gridania.
She gives you the quest for "Fire in the Gloom".

There's a couple more quests in between Gridanian Envoy and Fire In the Gloom. The order for your next few quests is:

The Gridanian Envoy
Call of the Sea
It's Probably Pirates (includes Sastasha Seagrot dungeon)
Call of the Forest
Fire in the Gloom (includes The Tam-Tara Deepcroft dungeon)
Call of the Desert
Into a Copper Hell (includes Copperbell Mines dungeon)
The Scions of the Seventh Dawn

It sounds like Call of the Sea is the next one you need to pick up. Get it from Bartholomew in Uldah's Royal Promenade (upper level area of Steps of Thal). If you've finished The Gridanian Envoy, you should have airship travel unlocked for easy access to any of the three starting cities. You'll be expected to travel back and forth between all of them from here on out.

Oh, one possible reason why you might miss it is that the Steps of Thal has a staircase and two different levels. It's considered a single region because you can walk between the floors without a zone boundary, but the map does change as you go up or down stairs, showing either the lower level of the region or the upper level. When you enter the Steps of Thal from the Steps of Nald, you'll be on the lower level and see the lower level portion of the map, but Bartholemew is on the upper level. I think you may need to go upstairs where he is before you'll see the quest icon.

(When you first finished The Gridanian Envoy, it should have left off right in front of him, so if you picked up the next quest right away, this wouldn't have been an issue. However, if you're going back later trying to find where the quest icon is, it could be confusing. Usually, as soon as you enter a region, the map shows the entire region, but in the case of the Steps of Thal it doesn't, due to the two floors there.)
