Is something wrong with duty finder?

Last night I was queuing with 2 friends for expert roulette. 1 healer , 2 dps, we waited around 15 minutes and no tank showed up. We wanted to accelerate things so one of us went tank and re-queued. to my surprise we waited 5 minutes and no dps showed up

We ended forming a group of 4 people but this is odd. Today I've been in queue for VA for 20 minutes and never poped up. My friend just had to go.

Anyone experimenting something similar? DF is pretty broken for me atm

Do you have all 4 languages checked?

This... shouldn't be counted as good advice. And it shouldn't need to be used to speed up queues either >.<
I'm not saying it won't help, because I know it will... But me personally, I'm intending to never use it. Just as I dislike getting DE-only or FR-only people in my instances when I've only ticked EN, I'm not going to subject a DE or FR group that has ticked only their language to my presence, seeing as how I speak neither language. (Being in Chaos, I doubt there are many JP-only people, hence why I left that language out ^^; ) Not because I have anything against them as such, but it is highly annoying trying to discuss tactics when one or two people makes no sign they even try to read what you're saying.

I know there's been some issues from time to time with DF since 3.0, when the devs' tweaks have had unexpected consequences. And I'm not sure if all those consequences have been sorted out entirely. I've had issues where the queue window doesn't show the count of how many in which roles, only showing the text "Reserving instance" and nothing more, if even that. (My flatmate, on the other hand, has gotten the full queue window, when we've queued together. Other times, I've gotten the full thing, and my flatmate's gotten the bugged-out one.) I've had queues where the DF said the role in need was tank (or healer), yet we're sitting there with 1 tank, 1 healer and 0 dps (for a 4-man instance) for 20 minutes or more.

    The last issue I read about was regarding VA, and how they recommended queueing either with a full group or solo, not with a partially preformed. But that was a while ago, before I had to take a break from the game for IRL reasons, and I don't know if the issue was solved or not. And even if it mainly was, it wouldn't surprise me if there's a ghost of that glitch/bug still haunting the DF... ^^;

Hmm, have never noticed that. But I have been using the DF in the same fashion and just recently is giving me problems.

So it shouldn't be counted as good advice....even though you know it'll speed up the queue? Your loss. Anything put in DF is easy and doesn't need any communication - and the fights that need it? Auto-T.

I had a french speaking healer wearing vit accessories in The Vault. Any attempt at auto-translation to tell him to change that resulted in him continuing to not understand.
I mean, we won in the end, it took about 6 wipes before we managed, but it wasn't easy, nor terribly fun.

Sometimes the language barrier is just too much. That or I simply don't understand French trolls yet.

Just because it works, it doesn't mean that it's good practice. Robbery is a way to get money quickly. Is it a good way? No.
(I know it's not a proper comparison, just wanting to point out that 'working' =/= 'good advice'.)

Have you tried to explain in auto-translation: "Ok, so when the boss casts [ability name], we need to stack, and then immediately after spread out again to avoid splash damage attack." Or "If you get stuck on the ledge when trying to jump off Bismarck, try jumping off him closer to the centre of the 'merge' with the island." (The last being the reason why a FR-only random went parachuting yesterday.)

    Also...

I don't know about you, but I've seen the subject come up a couple of times. Usually in threads regarding other topics, like it was brought up this time, but I've seen it. Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it's not there. Try checking 'tales from the duty finder' or 'healer horror stories' and similar threads.

And yes, you get 'bads' in any language. You're more likely to be counted as bad if you insist on pretending to speak a language you don't, only to fail to understand when you're given advice that would actually help you get better. *shrugs*

I've had issues with non-English speaking players quite a lot, actually. Try running Copperbell Mines with a new player who doesn't understand you at all while fighting the mid-boss...longest I've ever been in a dungeon.

But yeah, I've noticed some funky stuff going on, too, it's not just you, OP. Thankfully, the upcoming patch is going to drastically improve DF it seems...assuming all the kinks will be worked out upon release...
